About 2 weeks ago my new computer had its first blue screen crash. It happened when playing Kerbal Space Program. The first thing I did was update my video drivers, but that didn't help. Then I used windows debug and it told me "likely caused by USBPORT.SYS" after that I uninstalled all the usb devices, rebooted and let windows find the drivers for me. I also disabled usb selective suspend. The computer seemed fine for two days and then it happened again. I've been updating every driver and looking on the internet for a solution but the issue still remains. I went to a restore point that was older than the issue itself but with no luck. I also ran a disk check. still nothing. I used CCleaner to fix problems with the registry, no luck. I used windows repair but that seems to have done nothing.

I'm hoping somebody with a bit more software knowledge might be able to read my crash dump and find out what might be causing the problem and what I can do to rectify it.

Thanks in advance to anybody who reads this and decides to help out.

Actually, the problem is the USB interface of the motherboard. It is failing there.

The required drivers for USB1 and USB2 are chipset elements. And there is no driver available for windows 7.
It might be the source of the issue. I have lack of idea how to make windows 7 work perfectly with older boards. Some other peoples are there who can do it nicely. I will try to draw their attention to your thread.

lets say I replaced the board with a newer one. Would that solve the issue? Buy a new board and reinstall windows? Can I still use the ram sticks? Can you tell if they are working?

Thanks I appreciate the help. I'm willing to buy new parts as long as I know which bit is causing the problem.

Don't want to buy a full computer though.

This is a 775 socket board. You will not get a replacement of this board, IMHO. If you get a new board, you will have to change the processor too.

As the RAM should be DDR3, there is a most possibility that the RAM will still remain useable.

A motherboard is not very costly itself, but when it comes with a processor too, it becomes costly.

Let us wait and see what can we get from the other experienced members. I have already tried to draw attention to your thread.

I know I'd have to replace the CPU as well. I'd probably just try to get a bundle deal from NCIX for a 6core and mobo package. But yeah If I can somehow salvage the one I have and not spend any money, I'm happy with that.

There is some drivers for the chipset and one that quotesWindows 7 it might be of some help (the top one) and in the manual a littlelower if you download that and look at page 4.28 it has references to settingup the USB’s albeit in the BIOS

Damn shame Blue I have a tester machine here with an Intel 9650 4GB RAM and it works good with 7 - 64bit suppose the budget cannot run to a board that will take the CPU as they do not come cheap. I priced a replacement for mine an it was more than some of the current Intel i7's. Maybe a scratch through Ebay might throw up something - though you are taking a risk eh?
But out here is what is on offer you would need to check the specs of course but the prices are not that bad

I was able to update the vista 64bit chipset driver using compatability mode for vista.

I'll watch the machine for a couple days and try to do some testing maybe it did something maybe it didn't.

I dont think updating the chipset worked, it BSOD 2 hours after I installed it.

Also I was watching it install and it never mentioned anything about usb1 and usb2.

I guess I'll chalk it up to a bummed motherboard usb port. I've decided to use my other computer for the time being which is pretty much the same rig just this one works fine.

Gives me a chance to get with the times anyways. Time to get me a new motherboard and an i7 or an AMD six core. I'll salvage what I can from the project computer and start over.

Thanks for all your help guys I really appreciate it. I'm gonna mark the thread as solved.
