So I can't log into my administrator account. I went into safe mode, created another user and attempted to make that user administrator but I found I was unable to, despite entering in my password. In fact i can't do any administrator action it just asks for my password then does nothing.

Could anyone go step by step in some sort of solution? or do I need to use my cd to repair the OS? Reinstalling isn't an option, I got the OS through academic alliance, product key is only good once.

You could try a Repair Install. Bad comes to worst, it doesn't work.
