user32.dll error running out if ideas on how to fix

Hi everyone
I'm currently trying to fix my computer that has started to come up with user32.dll not found errors on start up, IT is also BSODing I think caused by the same issue however I am yet to be quick enough with my phone to confirm that the BSOD is. I have tried what fixes I know of or can find online with no luck I will list what I have tried below.

copying to good files from my main working win 7 machine and registering them --- error when trying to register them.

running reg scan program that I normally use --- does not launch program due to the error.

replacing registry with a version backup taken before this error existed.---- failed with unable to change registry error.(was run as admin at the time)

sfc / scannow with various switches all seem to not work when launched from win 7 disk or from live OS.

upgrade install on windows ---- gives me the error that the version of windows is newer that whats on the disk.

re-install of sp1 ----does not launch installer due to the error.


I hope that There is a fix for this error and a clean re-install is not really an option at this time.

Try running "SFC /verifyonly" from an elevated command prompt. (Administrator) Report back what's returned on the console.

STOP running any type of registry cleaner unless directed and with specific options. These do more harm than good.

User32.dll is a popular virus and adware target. Download and run Malwarebytes Anti-malware free version.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

What AV software are you using? It may not be working.

I never did get the reg cleaner program to work work so no worries there.

I will try both malware bytes and the SFC in the morning.

I am running AVG antivirus i will check to see that its working ok when I look at the other options.

Boot form win7 install disk (repair your computer) or win7 system repair disk. Select command prompt

diskpart
list vol

What volumes do you see (ignore the DVD volumes). Which volume has "system" at the end under column Info?
What volume has win7 on it?

Give the drive letters of both volumes as listed there

thank you all for your help I have now fixed the problem.

it appears that either the sfc that carwiz posted worked or me copying a new user32.dll into place last nigth from my working machine I can't be sure which.

carwiz you where also correct that the antivirus was not working however I have not sorted that as well thanks.

I will run a couple of virus tests to make sure its clean that get on with using it again.

looks like the BSOD is still there . while the user32 error has stopped its still bsoding and very unstable I have looked into the event viewer to see if i can see anything but nothing i have tried makes any difference.

I have attached the logs zip file as mentioned in the post above so hopefully someone can shed some light on this thanks again.

Took a look at your crash dumps, it looks like AVG is causing the problem:

please uninstall it using the AVG Removal Tool and then replace it with MSE and Mbam

7E and parm1=5: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory access violation occurred.
There's also some memory pool corruption during Explorer.EXE that is probably caused by AVG.

This is common with the AVG drivers as Dsprague states. Follow the links as stated.

Let's get the memory corruption cleared up then we'll see where we are.

Thanks for the replies I have now removed Avg and run MB which now comes up clear it only found 1 thing which was easily removed.


the computer seems to9 be stable now however do you know of any way of testing this fact ?
