I need to disable a device programmatically – the reason for this is too long to get into.

The device ID found by using devcon hwids is:

USB\VID_047F&PID_AB01&REV_0118&MI_00

What is the correct syntax to disable this device?

I believe it starts something like:
"devcon disable", but after that I'm lost. I have tried numerous variants and none of them seems to work?

Any help with this would be sincerely appreciated.

No, all I want to do is to explicitly disable a specific device – in this case a USB headset speaker output; the microphone part of the headset is just fine.

The actual device I am attempting to disable is a Plantronics USB headset which uses (according to Plantronics) the standard window supplied sound drivers.

Maxie, that puts you light years ahead of me. The speaker part of the headset drops out about every 20 minutes and the only way to restore it to normal operation is to disable it and reenable it in the "sounds" dialog which involves an awful lot of mousing. Since I am 80 years old and legally blind (I wrote my 1st program in 1955) mousing is exquisitely painful and if I could express the disabling and re-enabling in a program I could invoke that program using a single voice command with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

I use ZoomText to read webpages to me but when the sound is not working that doesn't work either – that renders my computer useless.

I hope that explains my pursuit.
