Solved Using Task Scheduler to wake PC for the day

I put my PC in standby when I go to bed and would like to resume automatically each morning at 5am, the way a WOL packet would do.

Can I use Task Scheduler for this? I know I could if I chose to run a specific program, but I just want the PC to wake for the day.

Thanks for the link, but I had already seen that. As far as I can tell, it still requires that some action be taken at resume (program, email, message). All I require is that the PC wake and stay awake. I suppose I could create some message if need be, if that's the only way to do this.

This may not be any use but just for reference here it is.

Most BIOS's will have an option to wake the computer at a certain time, mine calls this "Power on by RTC Alarm". I've never tried this while in sleep mode or hibernate only when shutdown but you could test it out.

The problem will be if you have sleep or hibernate timeouts set in power options there will be nothing stopping it from going back into sleep or hibernate and if you have to enter a password when you boot or come out of sleep then it will stay on that screen.

I suppose I could create some message if need be, if that's the only way to do this.

The task could be something as simple as launching and then closing the command prompt window.

Yeah, you just have to give it an action to perform.

One of my systems at home actually wakes itself and launches media player as my alarm clock.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. What I've done for starters is to create a "Good Morning" message (have no idea it it will work, will see tomorrow morning). I really like the media player/alarm clock idea. Pretty clever.

As for the automatic re-sleep without keystrokes or mouse movement, I changed the registry default setting of 2 min. to 15 min. (guess I could do longer). That way it'll give me more time to get my butt out of bed and input something.

Test it before tommorow, set the start time 5mins later than the current time, put it to sleep wait 5mins and see if it works. If it works change the time back to 5am or whatever you had it at.

Good idea. I did, and, yes, it works just having a message box appearing saying "Good Morning." Very cool. Now maybe I'll get more creative wrt selecting a task. Thanks again, guys.
