Using Windows Media Center with a Hauppauge 500 MCE tuner

I have a new Windows 7 system with Media Center and am using 16 G of RAM. I need a tuner, which I have. However, it is a Hauppauge 500 MCE tuner. Hauppauge tells me this only works on s system with 4 G's or less. Is there a way to temporarily reduce the RAM to 4 G's when I want to use the tuner?

I bought the Hauppauge 500 MCE TV Tuner a few years ago. It's NTSC ONLY TV tuner. Hauppage also to me that it will only work with 4Gig RAM or less. I'm not even sure if the 500 is 64bit compatible. I only used it on my 32-bit video editor.

If you want/need a TV tuner than can do HDTV & NTSC, look at the Hauppauge 1600. It comes in both PCI & PCIe versions.

You can tell the system to use less RAM.

Type Msconfig into the start search box.

Press enter.

Select the Boot tab
The select Advanced options.
Put a check in Maximum memory
and type in 4094
Select OK
Then OK again.

Unfortunately you must reboot for this to take effect.

This is Very Interesting. Will a simple re-boot put everything back to 16Gig RAM?

You could be the 1st. one in Hauppauge History, to break the 4Gig RAM ceiling!!!!!
