Validate windows 7 on a windows 8 laptop

Hi I have a HP Pavilion G6 Laptop which had windows 8 on it when i bought it,it has since crashed so i installed windows 7 on it which is a genuine copy but it won't let me validate my windows,any ideas on how to fix this problem?
