Hi all,

I recently installed some new hardware on my computer after my old EVGA 8800GT graphics card died. I installed a new motherboard, graphics card, processor, and RAM Complete specs are in my profile, but the quick and dirty:
MB: Asus P8Z77M-Pro w/ i5 @ 3.4GHz
GC: EVGA GTX650 2GB SC
RAM: 2x4GB Kingston Genesis HyperX DDR3

Included in the attached zip are four dump files. The first two are basically the same error (driver_power_state_failure, STOP: 0x0000009f) and are unrelated (they occurred in March of this year, and haven't happened since! I can't remember what that was about, but I fixed it!)

The latter two are the ones giving me grief now, and they are both different!
They both occurred after I installed the new hardware and the computer has been running fine otherwise. Everything boots up fast, I can run Word and Chrome and other light software just happily. However, these errors BOTH occurred while playing Skyrim (one on the highest possible graphics settings, the other on a step down).

The first error is STOP: 0x0000009c error, MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, seeming to be caused by hal.dll

The second error is STOP: 0x00000050, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, seeming to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe

I don't understand what could be causing these two different BSODs, both while playing the same system-intensive game. I haven't tried any other games to date to see if they also result in the same error (but watching a BluRay rip on fullscreen at 1920x1200 runs just fine).

The full SevenForums utility dump is attached, and my complete system information is in my profile. If I can provide any other information that you guys might need to help me track down this problem just let me know!

Thanks for your help!

-Philip

Welcome aboard, codplay.

The dumps you provided, the last one is of 4/10.

And, it is not a stop 0x9F, driver power state failure. It is stop 50, pagefault in nonpaged area.

So I am guessing, checking those cannot be helpful for your problem. Can you search for the latest dumps and upload those?

When buying new hardware it is recommended to clean install any Operating System, while it can be done it avoids situations like these.

I would advise you clean install your OS, dont forget to back up your important Documents, files etc

Good Luck ;)

Reactions: Arc
Hi Arc / Anthony,

Arc: They are the newest dumps. I haven't opened Skyrim (or any other game) since then and coincidentally, have not had the system BSOD on me.

The 0x9F errors were the 11/03 and 21/03 ones - from March, yes they are old and irrelevant, the SevenForums utility just grabbed them so I wanted to explain that they are actually not part of this problem.

I will try running Skyrim again today and seeing if I BSOD - but I wasn't sure if that would be helpful seeing as the latest two logs had two different STOP codes (but both the same cause - playing Skyrim).

Anthony: I do realize that, and I do plan on doing a fresh install - I suppose my concern is that the pagefault in nonpaged area error is commonly due to MB/RAM issues - and I'm not really sure how to read these logs in depth. I have tried running Prime95 to do a CPU/Memory stress test, but the application crashed within five minutes (I can try dig that log up if it might be helpful to you guys - but it was an appcrash, NOT a BSOD).

Cheers!

-Philip
