VC ++ Installations Not Being Seen

I've been having a problem when installing some programs, in that they pop a window asking for the location of some particular version of VC ++. At first, it was just my firewall (OutPost), but more recently the Windows version of SeaTools. In both instances, what they requested the location of is already installed, however I'm unable to browse to their location myself, because they don't install like most programs. I sent a request to Agnitum for support ~3 weeks ago, and never received a response, so I just sent another.

I'm just trying to get a handle on how best to deal with this. In the case of my firewall, it seems to function properly anyway, but then I can't be certain. As for SeaTools, it is just the opposite...it installed, but doesn't work properly.

I have so many VC ++ versions, updates, etc. that I really don't want to reinstall all of them, because I know that would wreck havoc. Is there a simpler solution?

Why would third party programs need anything from vc++? I can understand vc++ win32 exe programs not compiled with /MT switch gotcha', but why does installing non sw development apps care about vc++? It makes no sense.

afa firewalls and the rest of it, I gave up trying to run my machines with a prophylactic on. For protected browsing I use Sandboxie. I run behind a router. I make frequent system backup images. If you have all that stuff interfering with how your machine works it's more hassle than having to restore an image.

I do some vc++ and also some scripting languages where you compile the interpreter into the exe to avoid needed the interpreter on the target machine. As soon as av programs see that they flag them. It's just stupid. You can't catch malware by creating a database after the malware has been created. It's only good for cleaning off some annoyance malware.

I'm not sure why any program needs VC ++, but on the OutPost forum, it was suggested that it is used for the app's GUI. Whether that is true or not, I don't know, because OutPost's GUI seems to be fine. As for SeaTools, it's GUI seems fine, until one tries to use it, because many of it's functions are inop.

I use Outpost Firewall in the past. But it's been a few years. On XP I guess. Seems pretty strange it doesn't put up an error for a specific dll or assembly or anything.

I just received an update email from Agnitum support on an inquiry that I originally made on 10-19-2010 about this, which said that they still had no answer to the problem, but they were still working on it. This tends to make me think that the problem is in the VC ++ installations, instead of the apps, so if nothing else arises in a while, I will probably try reinstalling the two versions so far involved. However, I'm not certain how, because most of them were installed by various apps during their installation, and I don't remember which apps, nor where to find the VC ++ versions separately,
