Very low sound in HP Mini 2140, Win 7

I have a HP Mini 2140 with Windows 7 with OEM sound system. With the sound level set at 100%, playing a video, whether online or from my wife's camera, the sound is very low.

Driver problem? Hardware? OS? Any help appreciated.

Is the problem ONLY with a video? Or is it ALL sound?

It is sound from any source.

Have you tried a headset? to see if it's just the internal speakers?

If it's both the speakers and headset, the first suggestion would be to reinstall the HP supplied sound driver (do not let Windows install a sound driver as it usually just installs a generic driver, also do not use a non-HP driver as many times non vendor drivers also do not work correctly).
