Solved Very slow computer

This question has probably been asked a million times. I know.

Just this morning, after my system woke up from having 0 percent of battery, my computer started running very slow. My web browser (Chrome) also completely freaked out, showing stuff like "this program is busy. switch to the unbusy one?" and weird stuff like that.

Anything I can do?

Update:Forgot to mention, but also when I type on a web browser, it freezes the screen, waits a few minutes, and then types it in. But that is only sometimes.

Also, when i type something in Windows Search it takes a few minutes to process the search.

I take it you rebooted with the lappy plugged in and have now fully charged your battery? You may want to do a restore back to a time when the lappy was fast and happy and review your power down setting in Power Options. Oh and not to scare you but a dear friend of mind lost the mobo on her lappy from allowing it to enter sleep mode regularly, advice from that service tech was avoid sleep mode with lappy's. Hope yours snaps out of it.

You can see if the issues are still there using safe mode..
How is you clock working ? depending on how long and exactly how drained you might need to replace your mother board battery ?

I would start with the basics and do a re-boot with quality power then if that isn't working then look to restore back before the event and if that doesn't work. Let's take if from there, I would normally have you update and run AV and Malware but this doesn't seem to be an attack, but this never hurts and is worth a try as well !

ThrashZone's response: the battery might of drained last night while I was sleeping, but I opened my laptop and noticed it today at around 2:17pm. The issues began at around 4pm. And, the clock is fine and there is no way I'll touch the motherboard.

But when I clicked on "more restore points", it didn't load. I know for a FACT that I had gone through a system restore and have been making them, but they didn't load.

For anti virus I have both AVG and Norton. I installed AVG last night, and had Norton ever since my PC was built. Which shall I use?

And for your info, should I change the "close the lid" to something like "do nothing"?

Quality power means the lappy is plugged into AC power or the battery is fully charged. I sounds like you don't have a restore point saved from before this happened. I would only have one AV program installed as you could be having a conflict with both installed. I'm not a huge Norton fan but I do know that Norton doesn't play nice with other AV programs. Which AV program is a paid program or are they but free or set to expire?

Regarding the power options:
"while plugged in" I would say never and never but that's me
"On battery Power" I would say 15 minutes and screen off and 20 minutes and shuts down.
Close lid" that's your call I would say doing nothing could be a problem and I would almost default to shut down of sleep.

Even better then that is shut down the lappy when you know you aren't coming right back.

I posting the same thing because it's very important.
I highly recommend never have two anti virus programs installed at the same time. Two anti virus at the same time will alone slow down a computer in leaps and bounds.
It's your choice which one to use. I use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Layback Bear: okay. Am I allowed to keep, say, Norton disabled and only have AVG on and vice versa? Now I also need to decide: my paid Norton that will expire in less than 100 days or my free, 1 yr AVG that I installed recently

By the way, System restore is not showing all my restore points. I clicked the button and does nothing. I searched for ways but are all too complicated. Anything else?

I would go online and find the Norton AV removal tool and free download and remove Norton and do a re-boot then you'll just have the 1 year paid AVG. I would suggest the free Malware Bytes as well. After removing Norton and restarting tell us how the system is responding. Don't try to unistall Norton with add/remove programs as it will leave artifacts...only the Norton removal tool for your version of Norton.

Can I keep them both and then disable one and use another? And vice cersa?

It's best to completely remove one of your anti virus completely using their online removal too.
The reason is a anti virus programs has its fingers in ever little corner of your system. Even when it is off/disabled. The other active anti virus program will see these fingers and think they are a infection and then all kinds of crazy things can happen. The odds of you having a proper working computer with two anti virus programs installed are slim to none.
Their are some here on the Forum that use Nortons or AVG but they are not highly represented here because of the problems they cause.
Most any quality anti virus will do a good job protecting but it also has to get along with the rest of the system or you will have a well protected system that you can't or won't use.

No one here has used AVG since it bloated up 10 years ago and fell out of favor with techies, but even worse is Norton bloatware which causes problems we see here almost daily - this is the third case today I've seen. These are terrible to impose on the first lightweight OS.

Are you still running HP factory preinstalled WIn7 with the worst load of bloatware in the industry? If so it is the worst install one can have - larded with sponsors' bloatware and useless duplicate utilties which have better versions built into Win7 . I'd do what most tech enthusiasts do and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so you can enjoy WIn7's native perfect performance.

Everything you need is provided in the blue link which recounts the Best Practices we've learned here since before Win7 was even released and which helped make us the top tech forums on the web.

Give it a try and if things improve great if not then my suggestion would be to remove one. You can always add it back. Your Norton is a free trial and the other is paid and you own it. If your really worried about it then remove AVG as you have a paid key to re-install and that's about as easy as it gets, I would contact AVG and see if they have a removal tool as well and use it. It's the artifacts of the two AV's that can also not play nice and use resources. Really there is zero need for both so lose the Norton and get on with the parade.

Ok, I will uninstall AVG using a tool from the site. Then I'll reboot and in 100 days or so when Norton expires I will get AVG again.

I'll tell everyone here if it is fixed.

The people that have posted in your thread giving advise spend a lot of time on this Forum daily. We do a lot of reading and get a good feel for what does and does not work for other members with Windows 7. We give advise for the full intent to help others with their problems.
I have spent good money on bad anti virus programs myself.
After spending a lot of time trying to get them to work with me and Windows 7 I remove them and put the CD in the garbage. Then I install Microsoft Security Essentials and things work as they should.

+1 for the light weight and effectiveness of MSE and when used with Malware Bytes forms a great free AV system. But my girlfriend loves her Norton and with Malware byes it's going well and then my rigs all are a premium paid AV with a full paid Malware bytes and knock on wood all is well.
