I was running VGA fine on my old Gateway monitor years ago and really noticed no difference when I switched to HDMI. That monitor's backlight burned out 2 years ago and I got an HP to replace it. This... upon switching to a VGA cable tonight I got a darker picture that was quite fuzzy and some noticeable afterimage "trails" to the right of everything. I had to switch back to HDMI- my reasons for wanting VGA are certain older games unfortunately stretching resolution to fit the screen in a way that looks awful and GFX settings do not support certain options that could work around that if using HDMI(it grays them out)
Is it possible VGA on this particular monitor is just poorly supported or is the cable I bought just junk? I can't extract the VGA connecting my second XP PC to the TV easily to test, but that picture looks fine over VGA and if it's the monitor then swapping cables won't matter.
