Videomate E300 on Windows 7 does not work after reboot

I wish there was a way to "ping" the device to test communication, like you could do with old pci modems.

I am thinking maybe the drivers are a little early for W7 RTM of late Oct. 2009 especially since their own TV application is in BETA and, again, they do not seem to be addressing issues on their own support site/forum.

Their TV application (ComproDTV) always shows beta whenever a new version comes out. Once they are satisfied with the new update they remove the beta tag.

Hmmm, if i do a Hibernate instead of restart or shut down. The TV card works when i resume...

Its definitely not loading the driver at boot.

I also disabled the "driver signature enforcement" through the F8 menu and through gpedit.msc, that didnt make any difference. Is there any way i can log what drivers load on boot? So i can see any errors.

Okay found the driver in the list, it says:

The issue with power to the USB hub can likely be configured in your system BIOS in conjunction with power settings. Review this in your mobo manual.

In the start menu type power and hit enter, then check the USB selective suspend setting and toggle it on or off depending on your BIOS settings for suspend/sleep. Write down each available option for each and test each combination. One likely will work consistently.

Also, can you list the driver from above and also list your full hardware spec.'s please (in your profile).

Okay, ive updated my system specs in my profile
USB selective suspend is currently disabled.
PCI Express - Link state power management is also off
The TV card is a PCI-Express card, not a usb device.

I will check the bios setting for suspend/sleep when i get home from work.

OK on the USB, when you wrote about hibernate I had USB on the brain I guess

I would still play with the power settings and see if that makes a difference except put the power options on high performanace with it's default settings and again check your manual for BIOS settings. This may not be your desired power setting, but let's see if that's the issue, after each single change, reboot and test.

I've set all power options etc onto highest performance. No power saving modes activated anywhere.
Also messed around in the BIOS, and couldnt find anything out of the ordinary

I doubt its the bios though, as my tv card worked fine when i had windows xp

Sorry - was looking at wrong line in your hardware spec.

After BIOS update, did you then re-install chipset drivers, then video drivers, then audio drivers, then rerun WMC setup?

I did install chipset drivers and re-run wmc setup, but didnt re-install video, audio.

Ok, i re-installed the chipset drivers. And video drivers, then audio drivers. And then re-ran the WMC set up. But upon restart... no signal again

Suggestions

Since you've tried everything imaginable, try work arounds. A few questions & suggestions:

- is there a running service that's associated with the Videomate E300, and if so, does stopping and starting that service make it working again? If yes, you could write a wmi script to stop and start the service after reboot.

- are there any 'helper' executables in the Videomate programs directory that might help? Sometimes, you can find small programs in the Program Files directory. In this case, you'd wish for a 'reset_videomate.exe' kind of program

- does the problem occur also from cold-boot (no reboot, but shutdown, remove power from the pc, and boot)?

- does disabling & reenabling the device work? If so, automatying this with Devcon is an option ( http://www.myitforum.com/articles/1/view.asp?id=5603 )

- or even removing the device via devcon and triggering a search for changes in plug&play devices

- or let the pc hibernate instead of shutdown.....

I do remember checking for a service a while back, but i will check again

The problem also occurs with a cold-boot however hibernate works fine.
So the problem is most likely the driver just not loading into ram at startup

Compro says they havent had this kind of issue before, so they are stumped. Their support is pretty much useless tho

I disabled and enabled the device and it still doesn't work

Also could not find any services that could be related to the tv tuner.

The only folder in program files, is the compro dtv, which is basically their tv viewing program. The tv card still works in WMC without that installed (but with the same restart problem).

One other suggestion comes to my mind. Google for Startup Delayer, and see if you can delay starting of the Videomate stuff after a (re)boot. Maybe Videomate likes all other stuff to be started first before Videomate is started. Startup Delayer will show all items (programs & services) which are started via registry, win&system.ini etc., you could experiment with the order in which Videomate & MCE are started.
