SageThumbs is a program that allows thumbnail views of rare or unsupported file types like PSD. Up until now it's only been available for XP but now is windows 7 ready - 32 & 64 bit.

It's freeware and you can download it at softpedia - download SageThumbs.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

Sorry Tagen, after coming across your suggestion here, I tried SageThumbs, and must say it is worse than not having SageThumbs. After installing even the normal blue PDS icon became plain white sheet. I uninstalled it and re-installed it, but no change. I'm now trying out Irfanview. My system is an old Dell with Windows 7 Professional. (32bit).

RE: Sagethumbs

Sorry to hear that the program doesn't work for you. You're actually the first person that I know of that is having a problem with sagethumbs. Could it be something else like an old graphics driver that is compiling the issue with psd thumbs? After installing the software you did go to control panel and access the settings from there didn't you?

Anyway, thumbnails and Windows 7 are just a friggin pain in the ass - XP was much easier.

I wish you luck!

Its a Photoshop fault, they removed thumbnail previews from CS6. However PSD previews show up in Bridge.

New to the forum and to Win7, I just downloaded and installed Sage Thumbs. Let me say that it works perfectly for me. Nevertheless, it is the third utility I had to install in order to see some thumbnails on Windows 7 (including MS's very own WMF format. What were these people at Microsoft thinking of when they devised the OS? Not to mention the total incompatibility of various older programs, with the added insult of limiting XP emulation to their more expensive versions (than my Home Premium 64 version). Fortunately, I have Real VNC installed, and in Network with XP machines. By the way, this is a workaround that I recommend to all who have had to suffer such Microsoft slings and arrows (of a treacherous fortune, indeed).

This forum looks quite knowledgeable and seems very well conceived. Looking forward to use it!

Best,

haku7

It will not show the images if you're PSD has a transparent or partially transparent layer at the top. If you copy and paste the full image merged you will be able to see it.

I am going to make me a event action for this to auto copy merged then paste on the event of saving a psd or closing one. :P

To bump this thread. What do you think about mysticthumbs? The fact that sagethumbs has a problem with transparent layers on top is concerning for me. Saving merged images as psd is useless - for me main advantage of psd is multi layer capability and keeping text layers editable.

This thread has been closed (and solved) so long ago, that I don't even remember it! Apart from that, Mystic Thumbs works quite well, albeit that it seems to slow down older and less powerful machines.

But, again, this problem was solved long ago.

I am using SageThumbs now. Its Awesome utility to make psd, ai, eps, pdf, etc. thumbnails enable in win 7 pro explorer. At first it was able to show thumbs of larger files but after changing options to file size to 1000 mb it worked on every file.
Best of all its a free utility. Before using SageThumbs, I was using MisticThumbs which is paid utility, after a trial period it doesn't work.
