I take a lot of photos and shoot RAW (CR2) only. Is there a way to view these files in Win 7 64 bit (and also to render thumbnails)? In Vista, WPG Live enabled me to view them, but I installed WPG Live a while back in beta with no success (also, if I remember correctly, the Live install file wouldn't let me install only PG...?)

As of now, I can view them in LR and CR3, but it'd be nice to view them within WPG. I guess the thumbnail issue may be a different problem.

Thanks,
James

Hi there
what's wrong with Canon's DPP (.CR2 is a Canon RAW format) or Adobe Bridge.

If you take a lot of photos having Photoshop is almost a given.

Canon's software in any case allows you to view and process RAW files.

Cheers
jimbo

Ken

Hi Ken,
Thanks for doing what I should initially have done. There may be some help there in the form of this link:

Digital SLR RAW Format Viewer for Windows 7 and Vista - Download Codec

I don't have the time to try it at the moment, but given that it states that the method is viable to view RAW in 64 bit, it looks hopeful.

Thanks again,
James

Hi Jimbo,

I've never cared for DPP. I love LR and CS3, but sometimes just need a nimble, small footprint viewer to peruse a large amount of files.

Thanks for your input,
James

I would also recommend using Faststone Image Viewer (free) as your default image viewer. It is simply an awesome viewer and not just for raw although it supports most raw formats as well. I use it for viewing even though I do most of my PP in Adobe Lightroom beta 3.

Picasa has added Raw (CR2) support. I love Picasa. I shoot in CR2 also.

I mostly use Canon's software but Picasa will let you view and edit them.

Explorer is a whole other discussion.

have been using "fastone (raw image viewer)" for 9 months or so on win 7 through beta to the RC and had no issues :geek:

i did not find it
i 'm looking for a free codec
but the canon codec is so slow!
Fastone is here:
FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ...
What exactly do you want to do? View images? Edit photos? or what?
What do you want a codec for?
hi
thanks
i mean a fast codec to see them in explorer
i 'm looking for a fast codec like Fast Picture Viewer | Image Codec Pack for Windows 7, Vista and XP
but it's no more free
