Virtual WiFi Miniport - Disapear!

My "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport adapter" has disapeared. How do I activate it again?

No, I have tried that before and I get this error:

If your driver supports the feature then just uninstalling then reinstalling the Realtek driver will also reinstall the wifi mini port.

Not all drivers support this feature, they need to be Windows 7 certified. There may be an updated version of the driver if you look around for one.

Ok. I've reinstaled the driver and the virtual wifi pops up finally!
Now I have network access through the AD-HOC, (computers can see each others folders).

But I do not have internet access through the AD-HOC.

I guess I have to share it on my main network, but I get this message:

So yes reinstalling the driver also fixed the mini port problem, so the original problem is now solved.

I suggest you either manually do this by following the guide in the link below.

As far as I know this WIFI miniport is only made for sharing a "Wireless" connection, not for creating an Ad-Hoc which is completely different and not even made to be permanent solution.

Looking at the picture, I can't even tell what you are trying to do here but it's certainly not anything I would attempt to do, or expect to be reliable. This is what I would call an experimental connection so proceed at your own peril.

I actually manage to get internet access via this AD-HOC connection. See the screen shot here: 2012-05-01_0928 - zuzullo's library

But you say that the method that I use is not the correct one. How would you do it if: - on your laptop you want to access via the WiFi board installed on the desktop:

• to your desktop shared folders
• to the internet via my desktop

If you clicked on the Microsoft link I provided it tells you that an Ad-Hoc is just a temporary shared connection that needs to be reset as soon as the client machines reboots. It's working as it should, which is to say it's not working every time you reboot.

An ad hoc network is a temporary connection between computers and devices used for a specific purpose, such as sharing documents during a meeting or playing multiple-player computer games.

If I did it my way ICS, AD-HOC and hosted wireless networks would not be required because I would do it the right way which is to purchase a router, preferably a dual band wireless N version.

I wouldn't use Ad-Hoc if you paid me.

But besides my distain for unreliable networks I would use the connectify software and set up a hosted wireless network. This would allow for file sharing and provide another wireless access point. This is exactly what the Microsoft WIFI mini port is made for. Click where is says download in the link below.
