I want to set up my PC so I can capture TV for the low price of $0. I have an old Emuzed Dell Movie Studio Plus capture card from my old, slow computer. I tried it in there, and it worked, but that computer is so old and slow that it either had to have the resolution set low, or would drop tons of frames. So, as I don't have any spare desktop PCs I put it into my main one, Windows 7 64bit (I really regret not getting 32bit now, this isn't the only issue it's given me). The Drives being 32bit refused to work with it. So, I want to foreword the PCI card to a VM. VirtualBox has --pciattatch with VBoxManage, only problem is I don't know how to find the address of my PCI card, the tutorial is only for Linux's lspci. Also, if there is better software for my purpose, like VMWare, or a way to use the driver with my host machine (some info there: It shows up in Device Manager as "Multimedia Controller" and Windows can't find a valid driver, nor does the CD work) then that would be ok too.

System specs are relevant

I tried manually opening .exe files from the CD and they said they are not compatible with this version of Windows. I know what the device is. I just don't know how to use it. Also, I'm more interested in capturing a video camera than TV actually. The video camera is a Sony SCR-TV280 NTSC. There's three different ways to get video out of it, and I haven't got any of them to work. The first of which is A/V OUT, which worked fine with a TV, but I couldn't get the capture card to work with my computer. The second is FireWire, which I tried connecting to my Host OS, and did not seem to stream live video from the camera. The third is USB Streaming, which only works in Windows XP but at least VirtualBox is capable of forwarding USB Devices -- or is it? I couldn't get the USB device to show up in VMWare or VirtualBox. Host OS recognizes it's there when I turn it on but has no clue what it is. Anyone know how to solve any one of these issues, I don't really care which. Also, should I start a new topic? Thanks.

Keep in mind that Sony specifically says USB streaming is only for Windows XP. It shows up as Other devices --> Unknown device. Also (maybe) worth noting here the Dell device shows up as "Multimedia controller".

Edit: A FireWire connection shows up as Imaging Devices --> Sony DV Camcorder. When I plugged it in Skype (I was in a call) said something along the lines of "The other party cannot see you yet" and there was an un-hide video button. Clicking it made it disappear and Skype said it couldn't see my webcam.

Now to be honest I have never tried capturing video on the computer as I have never had the need. But this seems to be going round the houses in ever decreasing circles.
So if it were me and I know it is more expense just when you don't need it probably but what about a new capture card?.
I have no idea as to what is a good brand but looking at my suppliers they range from $89 to $189 with most around $149 as you have a decent system there and for the sake of spending hours on trying to get the old card to work is it really worth it?

It is not anywhere near worth spending that money for me. I got it working though, via FireWire. I had to install TrackerCam and then it made it show up as a webcam. I will mark this is solved.

Agree mate as I do not do that stuff very much at all the cost fr me would not be justified.
But at least it is doing something for you :)
