What I'm running Win7 Ult x64 on Toshiba Satellite Laptop

Here is what happened:

I thought I might have a virus after firefox started jumping to random websites that were like I clicked on advertisements. So I ran a virus scan using Norton (as provided by Xfinity). It said it fixed all the problems but one and needed restart. Upon doing so it would get to the "Starting windows" screen then go black, and restart telling me to run a mode that is supposed to fix problems that prevent start up. So I thought the best course was to restore to a backup. But, it seems the virus removed these. So I used my mother's netbook to create a "repair disk." After booting with that disk it came to a screen that just said for me to supply "recovery media." I search around some and what I found lead me to make a Windows Recovery Disk (I found out 'repair' and 'recovery' are not the same). I create that and pop that in as the recovery media, nothing happens. So I restart and boot with the recovery disk, it goes past the 'starting windows' screen and into the disk that has "install win 7" and "repair," so I click repair and it looks like it took me back to the start, that boot mode that tries to auto fix problems. But this time it just tells me there isn't any problems.

That is where I am, does anyone have any advice for me? I am trying to get out of this without losing all of my personal files.

Thank you
