So, when I do a full/custom scan of my Z:\, or Z:\$RECYCLE.BIN, with MSE, it comes up with a few viruses.. Apparently. Don't really believe it.. But then again, why not?

I've tried to "remove" them with MSE, and it takes a few hours until it says "complete".. But right after, if I do a scan of the directory again, it comes up with the same ones.

How would I go about deleting the hidden OS folder $recycle.bin and zeroing the free space?

Would I only be able to scan the specific directory with the scan?

What would be the consequences of just deleting $RECYCLE.BIN from outside of windows?

I don't believe $Recycle Bin can be remove using normal methods. You can wipe the $Recycle Bin by using CCleaner and it Wipe Free Space. When you remove something from your computer it goes to $Recycle Bin ready to be wrote over. Those things are still on your computer until they are wrote over by you using your computer in a normal fashion. When you wipe the free space you remove contents of $Recycle Bin. I have tried it and it worked for me.

Well, I have tried ccleaner's drive wiper.. One pass of 0's, as I didn't want to wait very long wiping 600gb.. But the items remained.

Did you do what Jacee recommended? Is the $Recycle Bin empty now? Of you 600 gig of HD how much is being used? The reason I ask is 30 min is not much time to wipe free space. Did you let it complete it's wipe?

I did a custom EST scan for the $recycle.bin.. and I let it go until I saw a few bits that MSE flagged, so I axed it. It didn't come up with anything.

Then I did some googling.. and it seemed to be fine enough to just hit delete on the folder. Did that, then had MSE scan it.. nothing found. Good.

And I did let ccleaner wipe all 600gb. 600/2000 gb free. It took a while, but it was finished. Now I'm just going to zero it again just to be safe. Thanks
