Virus or malware - ad-type.google.com

Hi all,

I have encountered a pop-up adware that opens up a new window and usually transits via a ad-type.google.com url to other advertising sites.
Also, sometimes totalperformance.com

Impacts all browsers on my PC - Chrome, Firefox and IE.

Triggers - when I click on a page - anywhere, intermittently.

I have looked high and low and mostly have been directed to links that advertise SpyHunter - which i found out is a suspicious software in itself.

Other recommendations included running Malwarebytes - which I tried - but the issues still persists.

Strangely I found quite a few threads on the internet raising this same issue - but none had answers.

Is this some new, unsolved malware?

Anyone can help?

If it was my computer I would run AdwCleaner from Bleeping Computer.
When it finds something I run the clean command on everything it finds.

Thank you for the tips - I tried adwcleaner as well - didn't seem to find any malware or virus at all. Still getting the ad-type.google.com pop ups.

This one seems quite smart and stealth.

Any further steps I can try?

Check in msconfig/Startup and Services and see if you can see the little bugger in there.

Check msconfig, startup, services - disabled most non MS stuff, except NVIDIA and Intel - still no end to the issue

Hi,
I suppose now you'll have to review your browser add-ons in each browser you use,
I would bet money it's a Chrome extension causing issues in all your browsers,

Go to settings in Chrome and look at the left column entries there
In advanced settings all the way at the bottom
Uncheck the box to run extensions when Chrome is closed also.

Not sure about Firefox but in ie Gear symbol on the top right and Manage add-ons
On the left column on the bottom
Switch to Show All add-ons.
Then toolbars and extensions section near the top.
Post screen shots if you wish.

@ Hemzyy, Please right click on AdwCleaner to run as Administrator.

• Click on the Scan button.
• AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
• After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
• The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
• Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
• A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Get ADWCleaner from bleepingcomputer.com
Do a full scan and restart your computer.
Disable any unknown extensions you may have.

That should do the job.
