I have a dual boot system running XP Pro & Vista Ultimate. I ran System Mechanic in XP a couple of hours ago. When I went in to Vista, I noticed a piece of software missing (TextTwist). I tried to do a 'system restore' but, was informed no restore points had been created. I know that they have, 'cos I create a restore point at least daily. I have Stellar Data Recovery installed in Vista, but I need to know where the restore files are located.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot recover deleted restore points. The files for System Restore are stored in the "System Volume Information" folder of each drive. But along with the files there will be undocumented entries in other files. I suspect that System Mechanic deleted the restore points.

I have a low opinion of tools like System Mechanic. The problem is that they put potentially dangerous tools in the hands of people who have no understanding of what they are doing. A Major element of System Mechanic is a registry cleaner. These utilities generally cause more problems than they solve and should generally be avoided.
