Vista runs smooth, 7 doesn't...

Hi.
I've installed a few weeks ago seven professional x86 (clean installation, not upgrade)
I've been told and read that seven is fast as xp with vista interface.
That's not what i've experience.

I've always used vista and never had a single problem to report (sorry vista haters).
+95% i used the my computer in office mode. No need for better/higher profile, since vista worked just fine. I could watch 1080p videos with no problems, for example.

After i installed seven i got:

*BSOD.
xp and vista never gave me one. I have to go back to ME to remember what was a BSOD. I already installed seven 2 times and it happened 2 times. Conflict with software/drivers is out of the question, because BSOD happened before i installed anything.

*Inferior score on windows experience index. And it's noticible.
For example, i have to set my settings to high performance if i want to watch 1080p. If i'm downloading something i get distorted sound/lag if i try to watch a video from my hd or from a website.
Removed antivirus, firewall, disabled windows defender, defraged my hd, checked hd for errors, most recent drivers, asus drivers, etc, etc.....

My laptop (asus f3jp, x1700 512 ram, 3gb memory, 250 GB WD,..) is almost 3 years, but isn't seven ligter than vista?

Upgrade.... There's your first mistake.

If you would like to feel the full power that the Windows 7 experience can dish out, a clean install is what your after.

How keen are you on W7?
I'll be glad to walk you through the steps of a clean W7 install.

In-Place Upgrade is a corruption path. If ever there was a time to clean install, this is it with the best OS ever.

Many of us here have beta tested it for over a year now. 7 is so much lighter and faster than XP or Vista with correct clean installation, that going back to one of those OS's is like getting in an old car.

Why do you think people are bailing out of dual boots within hours or days of 7 install? We've helped do over a hundred of them here since release date.

Bad choice of words.
When i wrote upgrade i meant go from a "old" windows to a new.
I always do clean installs (os, software, etc...).
I never upgrade!

I once had both windows dual boot but i always end up using vista.
So i wiped everything and did a clean install of w7 to force me to like it but i miss the vista speed on my system

Are you running 64 bit, as 3gigs RAM might be too little, and I've always had bugginess with 64 bit here?

I'm sorry you are not experiencing the flawless, featherlight, instantaneous OS we have had since beta bugginess went away.

But there was a time with beta Win7 where I spent a lot of time in the Event Viewer googling repeat errors, and using the Diagnostic tools you'll find by clicking through the WEI score link to Advanced tools. I would def create a System Health report, check Diagnostics>Performance log, and bugcheck the Bluescreens.

I'll bet you'll find a hardware connection.

Might be a dumb idea but check your registry, AS LONG AS you know how to edit it properly not some automated software doing it for you.
And see what your 7 is indexing or not indexing.....?

i have to agree. i have been running 7 since the beta's and it is by far the most stable, reliable, and secure of the home versions of nt that microsour has created. i really enjoyed vista post sp1, however after running 7 i would never go back. i have to ask how many times did you wipe the drive before installing? you should always use a third party drive eraser program and do at least 3 passes. when you are dealing with an os old deleted files have a way of bleeding through and causing havoc if the drive is not properly wiped. if you can run vista completely stable on your system you can run 7 completely stable on it. 7 is designed to work on older hardware than vista is.

most likely is a driver issue I expect. However windows 7 can be incompatible with hardware that works on vista so I dont agree with everyone here. I know as on 2 different machines I had to get 3rd party drivers that were not needed in vista. Also my desktop motherboard has to have a new bios to even install windows 7 without a bsod but no problem with vista. So there was hardware specific changes made between the 2 OS's.

I agree, the vast majority of problems can be traced to either drivers or outdated or incompatible hardware, especially when it comes to network adaptors and routers. Blaming the Op system should not be an option here because it's not the problem.

Here's what i'm writing about:



Drivers? This can happen after a fresh install (not upgrade) and before installing drives/software/updates.
Programs? Same as above.
Hardware? Works fine on vista...

I read some people that had problems with soundcards on seven, like in this case but after googling i could't find any solution, except returning to vista, which is not a problem to me...
