Thanks, actually you did help. I didn't even think about the settings in the player and the Control Panel conflicting with each other. When I disabled the settings in the player, the Control Panel's settings started working. That fixes the problem for all practical purposes, but I still would like to be able to configure VLC to retain it's settings.

I found settings in Preferences (all settings)> Video> Filters> Image Adjust> Image Properties Filter, which appear to enable one to control the default value the player starts with, so one could either use the Control Panel or these Preferences values.

Since you solved the issue may I ask a related question? What type and version of VLC are you using? I've tried with installer, portable, stable, snap shot... no matter what I try, if I touch it while it's playing, it goes away. Then when I open it asks if I want to submit a crash report.

It's been doing this to me since version 1.0. I'm going nuts!!

Sorry, I posted before actually testing those settings. Changing the values has no effect on the video being played. As far as the version that I'm using, it is the regular Windows version 1.1.11. Not sure why your's would be crashing, but I would suspect that it is because of something outside of the player that is conflicting with it.

To get them to stick you need to check the appropriate box on the Filters front page in the Tools>Preferences (all settings)> Video> Filters dialogue otherwise it just presets the defaults in the Tools>Effects and Filters dialogue.

I get the occasional crash but not often on the current stable. I have tried the 1.2beta but it has too many problems ATM.

I gave up on it. It crashes every single use for me. If they do fix it they should also fix that default volume setting. Used to be if you clicked right on the slider then you could use the arrow keys to fine tune the number. Now you have to slide with the mouse. They should just change it so you can type in the number instead of fooling around with sliders.

It's a shame because VLC used to be my goto player. Now it's unusable.
