vmware player bsod

Keep us posted of your progress. I never paid much attention to the other Linux distros I have, but because of this thread I noticed when I was installing Zorin, it seemed pretty heavy on resources for Linux. Maybe the others are the same and I never noticed.

Ok, installed new version of zorin and everything ran great. I installed it and updated it with no issues or bsod. It was working with 2GB ram and 2 cores.

Very interesting.

I am going to keep watch on this and see if I get any more bsods. But as I said, before I never got any bsod unless it was in zorin. So we shall see what panda thinks and what happens here. I guess now it is more of a wait and see.

I'm starting to think it was the old version of zorin causing the issue though. I had a version 2 versions before this new one.

UPDATE:


I was able to reproduce the issue thanks to the panda support forum.

The url monitor which watches what processes access the internet and when is the cause of the bsod. When this is turned on and vmware player OS of choice is downloading a lot of data at once, it causes the bsod. When this is turned off and the upgrade/download process begins, there is no bsod.

Panda seems to be aware of it, and are looking for a solution.

This feature by default is not turned on. I had turned it on and it does require extra resources/performance.

Thanks though it was not me. The panda forum guy stated that sometimes bsods occur with that on. I am guessing they are still looking into a fix for it, but seeing as how that feature is off by default, it is probably not top priority.

Anyways, I also just updated ubuntu to the newest version and that went fine as well.

Like before I will update this thread again should it occur again.

You led me to panda, and that is what I needed. And you tested for me Once I got enough sleep, things started to click and turning off that feature was my first thought. Then panda forums confirmed it.

There newest version is only a few days old, still got some kinks to work out. But it is stable at default settings.

But I always have to tweak ha.

Same here lol. For me, system images are a requirement.
