Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

I installed the new driver. When I first logged in after a reboot I opened the mixer in the tray and clicked the volume+, and the sound increased. I thought my issue was solved, but the very same second I closed that mixer it stopped working. Volume is not adjusting anymore, not with mixer opened either.

I have solved the problem!

It seemed that the software which installed the drivers for my keyboard, also installed a sound driver, as shown on this picture:
speakers.png

This caused my computer to think I installed a new couple of speakers, and therefore when I used the volume buttons, rather than adjusting the volume in my headset, it adjusted the volume on what my PC thought was some speakers.

I disabled the device in the Sound Properties and now it is adjusting the volume on my headset instead, perfect.

Why it installs a driver that the computer sees as a speaker in the first place, I really dont know. Does anyone??? I figured perhaps the keyboard had a built in soundcard for the USB ports, but plugging my headset into either one didn't help, as my headset was still seen as a seperate device from the "Keyboard Speakers".

Either way though, thanks everyone for the help.
