Volume Shadow copy.

It's been a few days since I was able to restore my rig after a faulty SSHD and I've just about worked out all the bugs except for this one....

The Volume Shadow Copy service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

There's a TON of them. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it important? Can I live without it?

Shadow Copy is normally used by backup programs to copy a file that is in use.

How did you restore your rig after a faulty SSHD?
Did you do a clean install or cloned from the faulty SSHD?

Since the failing drive was only holding random pictures, music, and movies I didn't reinstall windows. I ran all the scans, and in the end did a restore point.

This install was fresh on a brand new drive.

Did you or did you not do a Clean install of Windows 7 on this computer.

I installed clean on a new drive after the first one went bad. Now a different drive went bad but not the one with the OS on it.

Shadow copies are only on Partition "C" where Windows 7 is installed.

Using the cmd prompt type vssadmin list shadows hit enter.

Post the results.

I ran the windows repair all in one tool and during the repair process this dll error kept popping up. XOLEHLP.dll is damaged

Run system file check: sfc /scannow

Google helped. I found some things I would recommending reading.

Sfc within windows finds errors but can't fix them. SFC from the F8 boot menu finds no errors.

I've replaced the DLL manually.

I still have the error.

The systems appears to be in good health and I've spent days googling for a solution but it all boils down to me having to reformat and install from scratch. I'm going to call this a lost cause and wait for the inevitable.

Could you explain why you are using F8 to run sfc /scannow?

I used f8 to get into the safemode menu which happened to have the "repair your computer" selection so I booted in to that where I could choose the CMD, System restore, memory check options. I run sfc within the CMD dos box.
