I have established a working VPN into a Server 2003 office network, and used to be able to use remote desktop to connect to my computer by the network IP address. a week ago, after installing Windows 7 updates, I can no longer connect to my work computer. Using Win 7 Home Premium here, XP pro at office. My desktop computer here (XP) can still connect... I've spent hours on this to no avail.. PLEASE HELP!! Thank you!
Also, once I have established the VPN, I can ping my office IP address... so it is there!

Microsoft NON-RESPONSE

to all the microsoft techs that monitor this forum: I'm happy to see that you don't have the balls to address an issue that your employer is respnosible for. Be proud. Stand up. Be recognized for touting crap, while blaming other software, while at the same time, providing no support for any OEM operating systems that micky-(mouse) - soft puked on the public. thank you very much.

I'm going to throw out a suggestion in this case. Try performing a system restore to a point before these updates were installed and see if you can then RDP to your Office PC or not.

Tried, but did not correct the issue.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this, and it kind of worked. I was able to reconnect through the YPN, untill Win 7 automatically updated again. During this restore/re-update process (several times) the last working restore poit dropped of the list of useable restore points. So, now I cannot even get back to a point where it worked!! Any other thought? I really do not want to wipe the driive.. Also, doing a google search, this is not an uncommon problem, but no one seems to have a working solution for me! thanks again....

(and I apologize for the tone of my last post. I am just so frustrated!)

Do these adjustments on the Windows 7 machines that need to connect to the server. I'm not sure if this has to do with your problem but this adjustment is usually required to allow Windows 7 to work with older servers.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

The screen shots below should be helpful.

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

VPN Established, RDP fails

Thank you for the suggestion, but Win 7 Home Premium does not have that option. It is only in 7 professional. Where I'm confused is that it worked fine for about 6 months, then after Win updates, stopped working. Also, as I said earlier, once I establish the VPN, I can ping every computer on our office network: I am "in", but caoont VPN to any of them. Also, my Desktop (XP Pro) at home connect perfectly well.

THanks for the link.. but to no avail. I have the opposite problem, VPN/RDP from 7 to XP, not the reverse. Thanks anyway... Still looking for a solution!!:(
