Hello.Just set my desktop running windows 7 to do a backup using the windows backup & restore setup,It went okay of course the first backup took a while to finish.
In the end it backup all that the items I chose it saved on to an external hdd,Now my question is I have set it to run every day at 1100hrs as a trial run.
What I would like to know when it does the next backup at 1100hrs tomorrow will it do a full backup or will it check to see if there is any change in my documents etc and just add the changes to the first backup done today at 1100hrs.??.
Any help here please.Thanks.

Hello!

Windows 7 will by default create a restore point in a variable date. This restore is containing important system files, documents etc.
If you backup a whole image, you can set Windows to overwrite a new backup on a specific time

Hope this helps,
FredeGail

Will W7 do an incremental backup,As if I add some items to my picture folder tonight will it just add those to the next backup,Or will it do another full backup.
I have only set the baackup to save My documents,My pictures,My music & My video to an external hdd,And set backup daily at 1100hrs daily as a trial run to see how I get on with the setup. Its all new to me now.
thanks.

I think i'd also update your music, pictures etc. Otherwise I believe you can do a setup that it will do such a things.

Best Regards,

Neither of the two answers above address Flogit's simple question. I am also interested in an answer but you must carefully read the question.

A standard windows backup consists of two types of backup.

1. A system image. Some people say that the second and subsequent backups are incremental but I am not sure as these take the same time as the original and it is difficult to see how much space is being used as it uses shadow storage. These backups continue until 30% of your backup device is used before replacing the oldest.

2. A file and folder backup. The second and subsequent backups are incremental except that every so often windows will do a full backup here. No one outside Microsoft has figured out what triggers a new full backup but on my system they seem to occur weekly if I do daily backups. You can see what backups are present and delete old backups if you click the Manage Space button.
