All of us here embrace Windows 7 as the best OS produced by M$ to-date. W8 and W10 still have too many UI changes and the strongly disliked tile.

Do you agree that Windows 7 should be iterated as Windows 11 with a couple minor changes:

Relates to Laptop and Desktop computers with no touch screen.

1. Remove Libraries

2. Add the right click on the Start Button that was created for W10.

3. Keep Aero for those who like the visual effect but definitely keep Classic Windows Theme too.

Really? I prefer 8.1 & 10, 7 is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I never understood the mindset of clinging to the past. Windows 7 is a great OS, but 8/8.1/10 build on that strong platform. UI changes aren't a negative. The only complaint about 8/8.1 is that the installer should have given a choice as to which interface it booted to...desktop or tiled. But, that was a hurdle easily surpassed.

Win 7 is a great OS but Win 8 and Win 10 aren't bad either. My take is that they are all pretty good but none is a clear winner to where I would forsake the others. That's why I currently have machines that run Win 7 and others that run Win 8. In the future I will probably have machines that run all 3 OSes (currently run Win 10 TP in VM only).

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I'm with the rest of these guys, Windows 8/8.1 are greatly improved OS's from Windows 7. While Windows 7 was a great OS, upgrading should no longer be thought of as taboo, but embraced!

Windows 7 is a great operating system.
I haven't spent enough time with Windows 8 to say much one way or the other.

I'm one of the testers of Windows 10.
I hope Windows 10 ends up being a operating system that I want to use. If W-10 is something I want to buy and use I will be happy.
That doesn't mean I will throw W-7 out the window.
It is as far as I know legal to use both operating system at the same time. That is what I plan to do at this time.

When I first starting using W-7 it only took a week or so and I knew that XP wasn't for me any more. The same very well might happen to W-7 if W-10 turns out the way I'm hoping it will. Then I will be a happy W-10 and W-7 user and maybe just a W-10 user. Time and tinkering will tell.

Well; at this point; the only way i would switch to something like Windows 10; is if they make it similar to 7. I do not like the tile layout of windows 8 like many others dont.

You aren't forced to use it. I have had Windows 8/8.1 running on my ultrabook since it's release, and that was the last day I've ever looked at the tiled interface. There may or may not be valid reasons for not wanting to use Windows 8, but the tiled interface isn't one of them.

I would agree with an update of 7 - but not with your list of changes. Especiall the libraries which I think are a very useful feature. And I also want Aero as default.

And I don't understand John's long tooth. For the desktop, 7 is still the ultimate in my book. And who needs touch on a PC. I have 1 laptop with touch. I have yet to use it for the firat time.

I'll have to keep a Win 7 installation for a while as I have one application that does not work on Win 8/8.1 (RS232 connection to my wife's Singer Embroidery machine). I have a Prolific USB/RS232 adapter and it doesn't connect in Win 8.1 (I get Code 10) and from what I find googling it is not Win 8 compatible. If it turns out Win 10 will support it then Win 7 will go.

To say that "All" members of this forum agree that Windows 7 is the best Windows OS to date is a bit of an extreme statement. And one that many members would disagree with. I personally prefer the user interface of Windows 7 but that is based on my own narrow perspective. Greater familiarity with Windows 8 could change that.

To most novices and inexperienced users the user interface IS the OS. That is all they can see, all they know about, all they care about. But there is much much more to it than that. Windows 8 and Windows 10 incorporate many improvements under the hood that are never seen by most users. These changes bring improvements in performance, reliability, security, usability, and more. All things considered the user interface changes are really quite superficial.

Windows 7 is currently in it's 6th year since introduction, a very long time in the computer industry. While currently still very popular it is aging rapidly. When Windows 11 (or whatever it will be called) is introduced it will be quite aged. A few minor change in the user interface will not be able to hide this fact.

Microsoft is well aware of the fact that it is in a highly competitive market. Many large companies have made the mistake of resting on a popular product expecting it's popularity will continue. Why mess with a good thing? But a new player comes on the field and market share plummets. The names of many such companies were once well known but now largely forgotten.

Reintroducing Windows 7 as Windows 11 would be a serious mistake, one which could have disastrous consequences. One might say it could never happen to Microsoft. But Microsoft executives are not so sure.

10 is yet to see what will become of it,
8 was a flop and so far I don't see allot of difference in the two or not enough to migrate completely,

So as it stands 7 will always be near by and 10 will simply be visited once every blue moon to update and peek at and boot back to 7 because it meets all needs out of the box without any third party tweaks.......
Cheers.

P.S. I believe 10TP was the first attempt to duplicate 7

I think Windows 10 is already a better OS, faster and with improvements that I can use. It has kept me from returning to Windows 7 since the day I installed it.

The market has already voted (13%) on Windows 8. We're fortunate it didn't kill off the desktop, a tribute to MS's historic strength raising a billion customers for the desktop and Windows 7's best-ever supremacy as an OS.

That said, there are natural divisions between those who like WIndows 8 and don't. Those who have touch appreciate Windows 8's updatable Live Tiles which offer a competitive advantage over the Ipad they were trying to compete with. In Ten these tiles are tamed so that the ones desktp users want work well from the side of the Start menu used by over a billion customers. You can even get rid of them entirely with easy right clicks.

It's just a shame they tried to replace the non-touch desktop all at once rather than having a savvy approach like Continuum which will adapt the OS to whether it's installed to touch or mouse.

Since this is Thanksgiving I'm thankful that MS has listened, that I am privileged to be one of the MVP's they sought out to listen to in Summit sessions with top execs, and excited about what's in store for the future.
