Upgraded from 7077 to RC1 (x86) and cannot sync with my HTC Touch Diamond. Tried uninstall the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) and reinstalling it but all it does is freeze when starting the WMDC

I'm trying to download it (WMDC) for the first time, and it just keeps saying Software Installation Unsuccessful (and tells me the device is unplugged, which it's not.)

I have installed the WMDC Driver Update successfully for Win 7 x64 RC1. However, everything goes belly up when i connect my HTC Touch Pro. It tells me that driver installation failed and device is unplugged whereas the device actually is plugged in. Has this got anything to do with the 64-bit OS?

Same for me

I am with Sprint, and under XP, my phone synced just fine, but under this Windows 7 build and WMDC 6.1, I cannot get the phone to sync because it says that the device is unplugged. I have installed/uninstalled several times now to no avail? I need to get this working, however, it is not working...

Looks like this is something only HTC can fix. No drivers by the looks of it.

Problem fixed

I began to wonder if this was a Windows issue, or operator error, namely, my settings on my phone. I found in the user guide from HTC, that under USB to PC settings, there is a selection for use as a disk drive or ActiveSync. If the "Ask about connection type when I connect is NOT checked, and you had it as a disk drive, then Windows Active Sync, or WMDC will not "see" your phone. You need to make sure you use the phone as an ActiveSync phone, otherwise you will see the issues presented here. If this does not clear your issue, than I have no clue why it is not working for you. This fixed my issue on Windows XP, and Windows 7 RC.

I also have NO CLUE when this setting got changed, I never changed it, but alas, it caused a lot of headache for one setting!!!

Just wanted to fix an issue for myself, and others, who had the same issue that I was experiencing. Sorry if it was in the wrong place, but some people may have been having the same issue, because the issue I was having looks very similar to the issue that was being reported here, but was an issue with operator error, and not an HTC fix.

Simply put, in terms of troubleshooting, this is a step that has to be done, and if done and does not fix the(your) issue, then its time to move onto the next step, which sadly, would probably be an HTC fix, or Microsoft update...

Well i have just about exhausted all the options short of formatting the phone.
The best i can achieve is to have the phone recognised and seen by active sync and have the files sycronise.
the down side is outlook contacts and diary do not sync.
the system thinks it is syncronising but in fact it will syncronise all night long with no result ... it just hangs.
this could be a serious problem if windows 7 cannot talk to windows mobile 6 :(

I fully agree. I've recently re-flashed my phone wih a build from xda-developers. I'm yet to try setting up sync with Win 7 RC, but when I do I'll report back.

Going to bump this thread...

I got a fuze that refuses to be seen by WMDC. W7 doesn't even show anything plugged in the usb port. Does not even state an unrecognized device. I even un-checked the setting under usb to pc. My fuze charges okay though.

I can sync okay using bluetooth with no problems. W7 found the drivers for that. Why not usb? Could it be the cable? I'm leaning towards no, because it charges my phone okay. Unless someone has different opinion. Is there a difference between usb data cable and usb charging cable? I also tried all other ports with similar results.

UPDATE:
Thank you for all your response :p. I have found the cable to be a problem. I purchased another cable that is specifically labeled usb DATA cable. I guess my first cable was only capable of charging and not data transfer. I always thought all usb cables are the same... lesson learned...
