Running out of space and I'd like to extend my primary (C) partition to the next drive (D) but in computer management D is listed as "Page file, Logical drive" and it will not allow me to delete it.
Would moving page file from D to E partition allow me to extend C into D? If so, how do I move page file in Win7 to another partition?

If I can't do this in Windows natively does someone have a suggestion on 3rd party software?

Yes you can move the page file to C partition, reboot, and then delete the D partition.

The place to move the page file is under My Computer > properties > advanced > performance > advanced > virtual memory

Make sure nothing important is on D partition before you delete it.

If you need some more help, let us know.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
I'd changed it hundred of times in XP, but for some reason I wasn't hitting "set" so I figured there might be another trick :/ thanks for verifying I wasn't going crazy.

So the second part of my question, the option to "extend" C when right clicking on it is blocked out. I'd like to have extend it into the free space, is my only option third party software now? thanks

Hi bounce,

You cannot extend a primary partition (blue bar) into an extended partition (green bar and border), even if it is showing free space as per your image above. Can you repost your image, only this time can we see ALL of the disk layout so that we can perhaps offer you a workaround or better advice on achieving what you want. It is possible that a 3rd party tool might be able to do this, but unfortunately I have no experience of such tools, and have only used the ones built into the OS.

After free space (where D was before I deleted) as in image there is E and I'm almost positive I can't extend primary into it. I have experience with partition magic, but I'm not sure that's the best thing to use with Windows 7, anyone have a recommendation? thanks

the only thing I'm able to do in the un formatted space is create a new partition, unfortunately there isn't an option to shrink when right-clicking.
thanks for the link, I'll read up about it.
