Solved want to send drivers to a friend in Oz

hello. I have a chum in Australia who reformats his computer every time he gets a problem. Trouble is, he doesn't install any drivers and so the system isn't working as it should. The computer is a Dell 5150. He hasn't given me the service tag as yet. I have been up to the Dell site (UK) and just downloaded the chipset driver package for that board for a start, but I want to send all the drivers to him if I can. What would be the best way to do that please?

it isn't an issue for me, but I have tried, and failed, to get him to download the driver-detect tool from nVidia, and he just bottles out and says something isn't working and gives up - simpler if I get the drivers and send them to him

Next time he does a Clean Install, have him make a image of it using Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download This way he can restore the image in 15 minutes instead of having to reinstall everything. He should them have Macrium make an automatic image weekly.

I would put them into a zip folder and upload to OneDrive or any other good upload site.

Even a cd or flash drive would need some installing
You might find it better to look into team viewer ?

Team Viewer, now there's a thought... OneDrive - yes I will look into that as well, thank you.

Well, if he formats it every time he has a problem, he should already have all the drivers he needs from Dell by now.

All he needs is the network driver to get started.

And there must be a reason he keeps having problems. ( downloading garbage comes to mind )

AddRAM, did you not read my first post? He DOESN'T download the drivers from Dell, that is the problem. His solution to everything is to reformat - that is all he knows to do. He didn't know about Dell, or that drivers were needed - nothing. Anyway, thank you all for trying to help, and your suggestions. I will give him the link to the Aussie Dell Support and hope to guide him to the correct drivers and download them one-by-one. If he can give me the service tag that wil help, but we will see. If that doesn't work I will try Teamviewer to put the correct files on his desktop. I assume I can do that. I have used other remote viewers to help folk in the past and suppose TV is much the same.

I Assume this system was not purchased in the UK, if so I would not do anything, without the Dell ID/Serial - Components at a board level should be compatible across markets but this is not always the case

I have the tag now and pointed him toward the Australian Dell Support site, and to the driver-list specific to that model - but that old saying about leading horses to water but you can't make them drink is applicable here, and as yet he hasn't downloaded anything. He is now talking about buying a cheapo laptop with Win 8.1 on it, because he thinks that it is the operating system itself that is the root cause of his problems. Illustrations about worn tyres on a truck not being solved by putting a new engine in fell on deaf ears. So, no further forward, and here in UK I have the occasional desire to put my hands around his neck and squeeze, such is the frustration - but he is a lovely guy despite this strange inability. I just wish I was there and could sort it out for him. Thank you for your help.

When I was specifying PC for commercial projects world wide, one of the main reasons I used Dell was their IDTag system, I could specify in the UK and the final end client, could contact their local Dell outlet and be sure of getting the exact part they needed . This was especially important with components such as PSUs in Small form cases - An off the shelf PSU just wouldn't fit and there was a bit of variation even amongst the Dell models - When Dell eventually decided to go with Standard Power units it made things a lot easier, It was just Voltage, Frequency & power to match up then

unless I am terribly wrong Windows should load the drivers and he will avoid the bloatware.

he is on XP.. I come here because I am on Win7. Even if he were, I doubt he would bother with .iso's.
All he has to do is click on 'download' for the chipset driver on the Aussie site - he won't do it. I have given up. I am encouraging him to get the cheapo laptop with win 8.1 instead

I suppose you could download the drivers from the Australian site using the ID tag, and eMail them on to him. That would give them the option, which is all you can do

Well for what it is worth he doesn't sound like he is very enthusiastic at all and a tad uninterested. You have done the right thing mate and if he cannot follow your input then that's his problem.
