Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86
- Came on the system
- OEM

- got the laptop in January of last year brand new

Hi,
I am running windows 7. I was playing sims 3 with no programmed running in the back round and then my computer went black and a blue screen appeared. From what I managed to read before It shut down it said there was an error to do with kernel data. So I left it a while then restarted, after it was started (which was slower than usuall) only the back round and the task bar started no desktop icons. Soon a mesage pops up saying stop: error 0x0000185 and something about a I/o error with misplaced data ?. Recently after an attempt to start up the laptop again it automatically updated from windows and now I get the icons but still the previous message and runtime errors. Ocasionly a programme will work but sometimes it sits doing nothing and then pops up saying "windows has encountered a fatal prop em dam will now shut down please save your work". How can I fix this as I have little money to replace it and it contains some vital work on it . Sorry I don't know much about computers but if anything happens ( if I get the message again and it includes more info ) I will post it . Thanks

Try these bootable diagnostics:
I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diags ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
There are also free, bootable antivirus disks at this link: Free Online AntiMalware Resources - Bootable Disks

Try Startup Repair. Run it at least 3 times: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

Hi,
For solving this problem you try some instruction,
Open Run then type chkdsk /r and press Enter. If any bed sector found you can never recover anymore.
then you try to Run Windows Memory Diagnostics.
If this process are not working you need to system restore.
