So I did a clean install of Win 7, reformatting the disk, thinking that I could pull everything back from my WD MyBook 500GB external drive. I plugged it in (tried all USB ports) and nothing is detected.

I've gone to WD site to find a driver, but can't find it. I re-installed the Memeo Backup software that came with it, which can't detect it either. Add a Device just spins and spins. Anyone know how I can get my stuff of the external drive?

Try checking the usb connection on the back of the drive itself.

Try going the device manager to see if the drive is showing up there. if it is, then the drive file system is at fault. it might be corrupted. the testdisk utility, or try connecting the drive to another computer to see what happens
