Hi guys,

I have a win7 home premium PC that has a Western Digital external drive attached to it. Recently, possibly in the last month, it's been giving me grief.
When it is plugged in the PC slows down to a crawl and at times I get a BSOD. I have been unable to save to the drive for a while so I formatted it using the command prompt. It still slows the PC down and I believe it still cannot be written to ( I'll have to check this on the weekend ).
Has anyone else come across this.
Oh I have tried different USB sockets and still get the same results.

Thanks,

Sean

Why not use disk management, then delete the partitions and remake them.
Its under administrative tools, computer management

Hi sdowney717,

I think you may have misunderstood my question. I have formatted the drive but I'm wanting to know what could be causing it to crash my PC.

Yes you formatted but did not remove the existing partition, maybe that has some issue, malware, I dont know.
Is the drive still warranted?

The drive could be failing, I've seen exactly the same thing with failing drives.
