Hello.

A few days ago I bought a new computer.
The assembly went smoothly, as did the Windows installation. But yesterday when I started browsing for drivers and games the computer froze for a second and then BSOD'ed (i was using firefox 4.0 and avira antivirus free).
I thought that this would be a one-time occurance, so I just booted up again and retraced my steps. But when I reached the page that had caused the crash, it crashed again.

So i searched around for a bit and the most straightforward solution would be to update the drivers. I updated the graphics and my usb-antenna's drivers.
It didn't help.

Next I tried to change antivirus to microsoft security essentials.
(I used avira's removal tool, I believe )

After another reboot and some Windows updates it still didn't work.
So here I am.

Some other info:
Windows 7 x64 Professional.
It is the first OS on the system.
I believe it's a Full retail copy (I got it through MSDNAA).
I assembled the components and installed Windows two days ago...

Help would really be appreciated.

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 x64 Professional
Every single one was a video timeout.

Have you checked your GPU temps? Try re-seating your video card

Can you try a different video card in the computer?

Since you just purchased the hardware, I would RMA your video card and get a new one.

First of all thanks for the help.

Overheating could definately be a problem as I'm using crossfirex with stock GPU-coolers. Although I did play HoN for about four hours without a crash.

I suppose I could give the graphics card from my old computer a try just to see if that would work.
However, that will have to wait for tomorrow as it's getting rather late.

Oh and, do you know of any good programs that read GPU temperatures? Or should I just google?

Once again, thanks for your help.

Okay, so I just tried furmark to see if overheating was the problem.

I do not believe that it should be my problem. Since it ran without a problem until it stabilized around 89c / 84c, where I quit the program.
Would the logfile from said test be interesting? And if so, where can I find it/how should I post it?

I have not yet tried the other graphics card, but that is next on my list.

Thank you.

(I'll attach the "results" from GPU-Z)

I don't think I need to see the logfile. Just try swapping out the card and see if you continue to get crashes.

Hi again, sorry for not replying for a while, but I've had a full schedule.

I just tried swapping the cards around.
First I used my old card (with drivers) and things worked smoothly with no crash even after an hour of surfing around.
Then I tried to only use the card I had used as the primary card, and things continued to flow smoothely with no crashes.
However, when I used the secondary card things started crashing. Even while I was on the desktop and I simply highlighted an icon, it caused a crash. So I couldn't start any program. When I rebooted I got a bluescreen as Windows was loading... I would say that the second card was faulty.

I will head to the store where I bought everything and try to RMA the card in a few days

Thank you for your help and advice. :)

P.S. I will mark the thread as solved once I've tested the replacement card.
