i see the problem. its saying your is chicony but acer doent have driver for 32bit. double check if you have 32bit. if you do, contact acer and ask what up with that.

Thanks to you both...I had mixed results:

extracted the .exe file form the zip and then double-clicked it to install the drivers, but after clicking Finish when complete, I got back a msg that the program may not have installed correctly...I clicked OK to proceed anyway. Reflecting on my decision, I chose to double-click the .exe file again and was presented with the option to Repair the first installation, which I chose. Did not get the error message the second time. What puzzles me is that the "USB cam" that appears in the Device Manager shows properties of a Microsoft camera...where is my Chicony!?

man when the not installed corectly occerd you had to " install using recommended settings"

ok acer is using this vista driver. they do that sometimes.

Exactly, and the sixth camera driver down is an x86 driver (32bit)...

derek: on the acer support click on where it says all operating systems, choose windows 7 home premium 32bit, theres no chicony driver, but there is for 64bit. acer is using the vista home premium 32bit chicony driver.

ok in programs and features uninstall the webcam driver there. then in device manager uninstall it there, reboot let it detect it and install webcam. then install vista driver.
take it from a acer owner, acer is a joke, i do not recommend people buying a acer emachine or gateway computer. to solve all problem of acer by not buying a new computer, do a clean install of full versoin win7, that way no acer software, you only use drivers for webcam, sound card, and vga.

That means you already have a newer version of that driver installed and since there are no warning :warn: symbols in device manager, I don't think your problem is driver related.

Have you tried using skype since you installed flash player?

I've already suggested at the beginning of the thread to install the new Acer drivers, and have had no success with them, this is a very peculiar issue :S

And ACER wants $179 for online takeover/resolution or somewhat less for per/incident telephone troubleshooting, so that's not gonna happen...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but has anyone suggested uninstalling the drivers and then attempting to install the Acer drivers?

geez 179 they wanted 200 bucks from me. that why i went searching for full version of windows vista and bought the OEM System Builder Pack windows 7 home premium 32bit and installed it.
