Weird goings on with a music folder!

Hi guys,

I've just upgraded from XP to win 7 ultimate x64.

I've got an older IDE HD in my machine (not the disc that Windows is installed on!) that stores my (120GB) of music. On the XP machine it was all meticulously sorted into /My Music/{Artist}/{Album}
With a few loose tracks stored in /My Music/Miscellaneous A.......Z etc and any compilations stored in /My Music/Various Artists/{Album}
So, all was fine and dandy on XP.
On this drive are also 2 folders containing nothing but music, waiting to be properly tagged and organised.

However, in the explorer in Win 7, The /My Music/ folder icon is a different one to the other folders on the drive (it's got musical notes on it!) and when I double click, expecting to see my organised file structure, I now see a list of folders representing every artist (a folder for each) including the artists that may have only one track on a compilation! (I'm hoping this makes some kind of sense!):D

So in the case of the various compilations the folder structure is going /My Music/{Artist}/{Album}/tracks (or track)

The other two folders on the drive which only contain other music files, have the normal folder icon and are displaying fine.

I can only think that it's something to do with windows 7 seeing the My Music folder on this drive as something different and being 'helpful' in displaying the folders of music sorted by artist?

On the other hand, I have just installed iTunes so maybe that's done something?

Any help would be gratefully received!

Cheers

Ok, maybe this Explains it better.......

I had a folder called Celina's Stuff which had in it a load of folders for each different artist, with the individual tracks in it. Now I've got a load of individual artist folders, each with a Celina's stuff folder in it!

Oh and iTunes now won't play any of the tracks because the folders it has in the library database don't match up with anything!

Oh and I did install iTunes folder watch but didn't run it yet!

Is there anything around (virus or otherwise) that may have rearranged these folders?
:confused:

Cheers

When iTunes runs, doesn't matter if you ask it to or not, if you've selected "keep my folders organised" then it will do it in the background, it has been the case here, but you can migrate your music to your new hard drive and keep the originals(I've done this and it works) and turn off the "keep my folders organised" selection, to access this and turn it off, you'll need to open iTunes and go to edit>preferences>advanced, here you'll see this

You need to uncheck that and you're set to go, but since iTunes has messed up your meticulous organisation of media, you're going to have to re-organise it all again, sorry
