Hi

i have the problem of reboot or select proper boot device. I added a new CD/DVD drive when i turned up my computer it showed me the error does some one know how to fix it i tried to remove the driver but it didn't help really need your help.

Sweet!!! That seems to have sorted it and in the process saved me from hours of hassle!

I did exactly as you suggested Bare Foot Kid and after using DiskPart to mark my system drive as 'Active' it appeared in the startup repair list as 'Windows 64-bit Ultimate (recovered)' or something close to that. Once windows startup repair was able to recognise the installation it was able to repair it and did take 3 system restarts to get there. But I'm now all up and running again, albeit 7 hours later! Officially the longest it's ever taken me to swap out a cable in a PC!

rapp33042, thanks for the info and it was totally my fault for assuming that clearing the NVRAM was risky when in fact flashing the BIOS is far more so! Anyway it's done no harm!

I am responding so this solution can be the FIRST thing that comes up on google. This is a common problem because the cause is so harmless (switching SATA cables), yet so many wrong answers appear higher on google. Let's fix that.

About two weeks ago I decided to get a SSD and use this as my bootdrive. Today (whitout any problems this far, or any warning signs) when i turned on my computer I experienced the "reboot or select proper boot device" problem.

After I turned off my computer last night I plugged out some of the cables and moved it (not far, like 1m (=3 feet)), and because my SSD is pretty loose inside the computer, I guessed it was just a loose cable. I made sure they where all properly in, and hoped that would do the trick. As you probably guessed that didn't do it. I tried to google it. I didn't find this post, and tried some other stuff. I was eventually about to give up. Turned on my computer a final time, and it booted.

The last thing I did was switching back the cables for the HDD/SSD.

I had the exact same situation as OP, and I will try Bare Foot Kid's solution next time this happens. I know it will happen again...
