Have you run Win7 x64 before? I mean other versions before this one?

Or did you switch from x86 to x64?

no, this is my first windows 7 install. I had used it without any problem for the past 2 months or so. This is the first time it fails on me.

Yeah, using the disk to repair would be the fastest solution. But i am really curious to know what causes this problems.

I honestly have no clue because of the range of issues happenning to you at once...you have more than one problem going on there

Ok, well, what could have happened is that since you used only 32bit OS's before, the difference with x64 is that for the first time you are using the last 1GB of you 4GB ram.

Now this could mean several things, but firstly you should see if there's a more recent BIOS for your mainboard.

Lots of mainboards have problems with using more than 3GB in their first BIOS versions. (but be carefull updating Bios)

It could also be that that last Ram strip is corrupt, but you never noticed because you never used it before because you were on 32bit OS.

If BIOS update doesn't help, try taking out that last strip of ram and see if Windows runs smooth on 3GB.

When this all doesn't help, you could/should reinstall Win7.

um, i don't really think the ram module is the problem. I have linux and mac os x installed on this laptop. The linux is 32 bit, but i enabled the pae in the kernel, so i can use the total 4 gig without any problem. I can also use Mac os x with the total 4 gig ram.

I think i will just repair the Os. Anyway, thanks for your quick reply guys, really appreciate it.

Hey, i decided not to repair it yet. I run the system into safe mode, and you know what, all the problems disapear. I think this must be caused by the system's driver, only i dont know which one is causing it . I tried to diasble the graphic driver but it does not work. Ill try this on the other drivers. ill report the outcome.

Btw zidane, is the latest windows 7 build that u tried is the rtm?No issues so far?

Ahhh, finally i figured out what is causing the problem. Apparently, the newest windows 7 x64 driver for asus xonar u1 is causing the problem. I removed it, and installed the vista x64 driver and everything else went back to normal. So, its not windows 7 fault.

i have used 7600 x64 and here is my problems w/ sw: adobe photoshop cs4 can't run 64 bit mode. only 32 bit mode works. also, i advice you instead of 7100 (which has a lot of bugs) get 7600.16385 and i believe you will have less issues:p
