Welcome screen on resume

Is it possible to set a welcome screen on resume? I know that on display properties there is an option to set a logon screen on resume, but I would like to get a welcome screen.
Actually, I'm pretty sure that my settings were like that till yesterday - after 10 minutes of inactivity my display would turn off, and then on resume I would get a welcome screen.
Can't remember that I changed anything.

I think what you are describing is found under control panel power options.
On the left side of the screen 'require a password on wake up'

No, that would be after sleep, but thing that I'm describing is after display turns off, but computer is not in sleep mode. And I think that would be a logon screen, if it requires a password.

Screensaver password option would work.

Having it function just because the monitor goes dark would more than likely require a task, I'm not that great with tasks.

I have all the settings correct, so far as I know. Screensaver box not checked, and if I interrupt the screensaver, there's no login screen, but if the monitor goes blank from myy power optons, there's the login screen again. No password is required from the power options, yet it still goes to the welcome screen. Very irritating, and Microsoft seems to have made it as diffiicult as possible to get rid of this pesky screen.

I can't really imagine how this can be, unless your monitor goes blank because the PC is going into standby (what you call sleep). Yet you say this is not so.

I'm a bit confused right now - do you want it to ask for your password when you wake up the PC (or monitor) or just be right back on your desktop?

Also, so there's no misunderstanding - what you refer to as the welcome screen is the one displaying all users on the system and showing which one is currently logged in. Am I right?

I have it set not to ask for a password ever, not even after emerging from standby. What's equally confusing to me, is that it doesn't always go to the welcome (login) screen. Yesterday, for example, it didn't display the behavior until midafternoon. I installed a new screensaver, made sure it didn't ask for a password, and all was fine until late last evening. This morning I got the screen again, checked all the settings once again, and so far so good--but I didn't change anything.

I don't want it to ever ask for a password. The laptop doesn't leave my house, and there's no one else here to use it.
