This is kind of a stupid remark. How can you run x86 programs on a RISC CPU.

I don't think they are out of touch. If you switch to a different technology, you cannot expect to use the facilities of another technology. Try to run x86 windows programs on Linux.

"I love Windows 8" as long as you keep stuffing those used $100 bills in my back pocket type website.
I hate 8 and see no point in turning the desktop world upside down for it. Poor sales are exactly what I expected, wait until after the holidays and the returns and exchanges keep coming in. If you are a computer guy in a business could be good for you selling 7 and installing it for the client.
8 is another VISTA.
I really do like 7 and I still like XP, 2000 and NT4.

I was referring to their inability to see (or admit to) the real reasons Win8 isn't selling.

Microsoft is in the business of selling operating systems. That we all know. What made them think they could sell a upgrade system to 100 million plus Windows 7 users with Windows 8 that is not PC friendly? Why not two systems. Windows 8 T and Windows 8 PC? Microsoft has 90% of the PC market. Why not have a Windows 8 for them to upgrade to and a Windows 8 for the new market in tablets and the like?
Their is already 3rd party programs out to make Windows 8 more PC friendly so I know it could of been done at Microsoft. It's not a engineering problem it's a marketing problem.

I think the title should be rephrased to "Windows 8 Expected Low Sales"; Windows 8 would be a good operating system for tablets and phones if it was designed with a more user-friendly UI and wasn't designed to be tried to be forced onto a desktop computer. It's like trying to run a program strictly compatible and designed for Mac on a Windows computer; the two do not work together.

Microsoft please release a SP2 for Windows 7, I'm beginning to get tired with these frequent updates.

But most likely it will not sell there either because of a lack of an ecosystem. Once that is ramped up, sales may improve.

Our role here will be more important than ever to reassert Win7 supremacy. Backing that is the unvarnished fact it is the best OS ever, still virtually in its infancy with anything worthwhile from 8 only needing importation via SP2.

I reckon Layback Bear is right. Surely to God someone should have realised that forcing an idiotic touchscreen on desktop users would alienate most people who have been happily using the desktop in Win7.

I would like to upgrade but I can't really be bothered wasting time making the OS run the way I want, not the way some spotty faced little herbert in programming thinks.

It can't be beyond Microsoft's ability to allow me to choose between a bunch of children's tiles or a plain desktop during installation.

Please MS, just let me boot directly to the desktop and I will upgrade tomorrow.

This solves most of the ills, grafting on your same Win7 Start button and Menu, while toggling off (until you turn it back on) the Metro button wall with crApps: Windows 7 Start Menu for Windows 8

Then these replica gadgets replace another popular desktop feature inexplicably left out: 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8

I cannot decide if it's actually faster without Metro loaded into RAM as stated. It seems to perform the same as Win7 but without the classier transparency.

Just my point Greg. With 3rd party programs Windows 8 can be made more PC friendly. That should of been done by Microsoft from the get go.

Exactly. Any actual improvements like with Explorer can be slipped into Win7 SP2. It can then remain the desktop OS. This is their way out. Stop trying to pry WIn7 off of PC's and out of users hands and finally recognize they have the best OS ever, still young and wildly popular.

Win8 is for tablets and phones, unless you want it on a desktop.
