When I click 'show characters' when viewing my network security key on my wifi connection, the security key is completely different to the one i originally added and is set on my router.

This isn't causing any problems, its set to auto connect and does so fine, and still does if I re type in the original key. I was just wondering why this is happening?

wasn't set properly re run configuration to set your actual key if not anyone can connect

I found this the hard way I set key and password and to my suprise it was open connection for all

Had to go through it again and cut -off the freeloaders

After re configuring my router and code it took place and i can see the network under the name i made

If you dont correct it soon you will be open to anything

Sometimes it shows in hexadecimal rather than character.

This is the case. I just put the numbers it gives me into a converter and it is indeed a hexadecimal version of my usual WEP Key.

Thanks.

You are welcome. When I originally had my router set up for me it was done as WEP with a fairly short key and I had that situation. I have now changed to WPA2 with a longer key and it now shows as character. I would advise using WPA2 if possible. It is much more secure.

+1 to this!

I had switched to WPA2 a few months back, after learning the differences between WEP and WPA in terms of security and vulnerabilities.
