The HP desktops are a lot better than the Dells. But the laptops are not that great.

Ya. i like their desktops. I have one which has been upgraded from stock configuration. The specs are in my pc specs.

The only issue I've had was the keys started falling off. I lost about 7 or 8 keys and had to get a new keyboard since the clips disintegrated and you can't put the key back on. My boss renamed it the gentlebook after that.
It gets rained on a fair amount ( I work in the Seattle area ) and that has never caused a problem. I've never dropped it, but it would probably take a good beating and still work.

My two self built desktops have ASUS motherboards in them and AMD Processors.
My laptop is an old Acer Aspire 5920 handed down to me from my father.
My step daughters Netbook is an HP Mini 110.
They are all running Windows 7.

Well I had a Hewlett Packard to begin with in '98 with Windows 98 then an HP Compaq with WinME followed by another HP but a Presario with XP. I now have 2 Zoostorms a 32 bit and a 64 bit, both running Windows 7, although the 32 bit came originally with Vista but I installed Windows 7 when it came out.

Hubby has the 64 bit that came with Windows 7.

These are all desktops, never had a laptop.

Custom built pcs make me kinda jelous. Emachines is good. It is owned and run by Acer which I have an Acer Extensa 5230e-2177 laptop.

About the end of 2005 I knew that it was time for a new PC and I had been wanting to build one so I had it all planned out. I was going to build one around March 2006 since that was my birthday I could get a few parts for a present. Well as luck would have it, just after the new year the power supply went out and I was at a point where I just had to have one pretty fast due to some papers I was preparing. I was forced to go and have one built. That is as close as I have gotten to building one. I have added several things to the one I had built in 2006 and it is running pretty good. Maybe one day I will build that PC after all. == Got a question, I have never heard of anyone building a laptop. Have any of you built one?

I don't think it's possible at the moment. As soon as someone does I will want to custom build a laptop. The most I have done with my laptop is swap out the 5400RPM hard drive with a Crucial M4 SSD.

They are - although my particular model is a 'gaming laptop' with self replaceable CPU and GPU and thus a bit $$$.
