What could suddenly cause these 3 similar programs from loading?

I tried to load up Inworldz Beta Wednesday and it would not load up. It has been working fine the days before. Windows 7 tried to look for a solution, but didn't find one.

So, I uninstalled Inworldz Beta and tried reinstalling it. Problem persisted, still wouldn't load up. I tried downloading an alternative viewer - Imprudence. But, after installation, it refuse to load up also. So, then I thought to try my Second Life Viewer and it wouldn't load up either.

All of these programs are similar, but I don't know what could be effecting all of them and causing them not to load up. The only changing to my computer since Tuesday, that I can see, has been windows automatic updates.

This morning (Friday, 4/4) when I booted up my computer Windows 7 didn't want to load up. I had to try a couple of times before it loaded up. I have to assume this issue is some how related to the other.

I tried system restore several times, but each time it fails and gives me this error message: 0xc0000022.

In addition to system restore, I have also tried sfc/scannow , and chkdsk. Didn't seem to find anything. I have also ran avast antivirus and malwarebites.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on here, or what I can do about this? I am clueless. My best guess is that the latest Windows updates did something to cause these issues.

Whilst you haven't described having a BSOD, this will still be able to generate the files needed to see if we can isolate the problem.

1. Download the DM Log Collector application to your desktop by clicking the link below

DM Log Collector.exe

2. Run it by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, and follow the prompts.
3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

Ok, I tried to attach it, let me know if it didn't upload. It also but another folder on my desktop called SFdebugfiles for some reason. I guess you don't need that since the folder says it's empty.

The only thing that is immediately obvious to me is a very outdated BIOS. It pre-dates Windows 7 by 2 years. Are there updates for it?

I didn't realize that was something you had to update. Could the bios cause an issue like this? I was thinking it must have been the virus I quarantined before all this happened. Or Windows updates caused an issue. I never heard of the bios causing programs not to work properly.

Btw, when you checked my computer, did that thing check my RAM too?

It may not be, its just something that stands out. Check to see what updates are available and list the changes here to see if its worth pursuing.

Malewarebits didn't find anything, but avast antivirus did right before this problem started.

Ok, here's what it tells me about the virus in avast. Btw, I noticed that there have been other such viruses over the last few months that it caught in that very same location. The virus has been quarantined though.

It said that I already had java, but I reinstalled it anyway. And check it to make sure it was working. But, the programs still won't load up.

I haven't figured out how to update my bios. My brother had this computer built so it's not like a brand name computer. Would I get the bios update from the motherboard manufacturer's website?

Yes, but don't install it straight away....first look through all the release notes for each update to determine what functionality has been added.

I can't figure out how to check for bios updates. I tried to get help on how to do that on the computerhope help chat room, but people keeping telling me that the bios would have nothing to do with these programs not loading. And thus nobody wants to show me how to check for bios updates.

I tried system restore a couple more times - still fails to restore.

I was told to try a Windows 7 Repair, but that process looks complicated as hell to me.

Is there anything else I could do? What could possibly affect 3 different programs, causing them not to load up? I don't understand that. No virus, no maleware, system files are fine when I do the sfc/scannow command. I have deleted files from my temp folders recently, but people say that is safe.

The only thing I can figure is that it has to be the recent Windows updates.

Welcome to Seven Forums kuurt. You are able to connect to the internet otherwise? All browsers work OK? I had to look to see what these viewers are for, they all connect to the same server? The same source? When you say they "won't load up", specifically what happens? Any errors?

See if you can ping the site address

Start> In search box type cmd.exe> When the command prompt opens type

ping secondlife.com (or whatever the address is you connect to)

Enter

Does the ping succeed?

Try connecting in Safe Mode with Networking

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

If you can connect there, try a Clean Start and see if there is a conflict

I have seen such -0022 problems caused by hard drive problems -

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

No, I don't think these 3 viewers would all connect to the same source or server, because Second Life and Inworldz are two different things. I don't know what the addresses would even been to ping them. I do know that other people's viewers are working fine though.

I was starting to wonder this morning if the problem could be hard drive related. When I logged on it showed the DVD drive as the master, but I wasn't seeing the hard drive listed. Again, Windows 7 did not want to load up. But, eventually it did. I noticed these message in the event viewer:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort4.

{Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.

Then I tried the sfc/scannow thing after I got on, and this time it did find some problems, and said it couldn't repair all of them, but the affects would take place after I restarted. I also told the computer to do a disk check the next time it boots up. I haven't restarted the computer yet because I'm afraid Windows 7 might not start back up next time. I want to make sure I got all my files backed up first.

I'm still not sure if this would be the hard drive, or the windows updates, or even if this problem with Windows 7 not wanting to load up is related to the other problem of the 3 programs not loading. I assume they are since they're happening around the same time. My hard drive isn't that old though.

Not yet, trying to get all my data backed up first, just in case windows doesn't load back up after I do the chkdsk. I am also trying to figure out the difference is between doing a repair install and what a system repair disk would do.

I'm confused. Where did that come from? Are you getting me mixed up with someone else, I didn't upload that?

I did the chkdsk thing. I don't know if it found or fixed anything because after it scanned I found it on the log in screen. It never told me the results of the scan. After logging back on I did the sfc/scannow again. It found a problem, something was corrupted, and it said it could not fix all of the problems. But, I restarted the computer so that what it did fix would take effect.

I have no idea what any of this means, do you? Like what exactly is my problem here?

I think this must be important. This is in the log file from the sfc/scannow:

Cannot repair member file [l:18{9}]"tcpip.sys"
Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"FWPKCLNT.SYS"

Have you made any manual TCP/IP settings? If not, try this, no harm if no help

Start> In search box type cmd> Right click on cmd.exe in results above and choose Run as administrator> When the command prompt opens, type (or C&P)

netsh int ip reset

Enter

Restart PC and see if any change.

Did you have a virus recently? Anything that could explain 2 system files being corrupted? A Guy
