What do you like about Windows 7?

I have to strongly disagree with games and chrome

They have been as easy with windows 7 as vista

These other comments prove what I have said:

Inexperinced beta testers
More then likley driver issues
Not all rigs will work well at this stage

To form a proper opinion you need 3 to 4 averge rigs
Your one laptop or computer is one out of thousands
My understanding is Microsoft is not concerned with computers
Older then 2 years and always suggest a new setup to " enjoy" the greatest functionality.

If you are beta testing do not say the software is crap because of your one system realize its a group effort and while in devolopment if the compnents functionality is more the responsability of the maker then m$, M$ makes basic drivers not the best always, this has been an always will ne since its possible for them to make the 10's of thousands drivers.

I prefer the 64 bit versions of the Beta to the RC on my desktop (but this could be caused by my attempts to import stuff using tools with debatable compatibility).
(Core i7 920, RAID 5, 12 gB RAM)

I prefer the 32 bit versions of the RC to the Beta on my tablet PC (and didn't attempt the imports on it)
(Lenovo x61 Tablet w/Centrino Pro, 7200 rpm SATA HD, 4gB of RAM)

Hmm...there are a couple of things that i like.

The new taskbar. I wasn't very impressed initially as it was quite a bit different than what i was used to for, oh i don't know, forever! But it has grown on me. And i like it very much. I have pinned some of my most accessed folders on the taskbar and it is so much easier to access them now. And it saves me icon space on the quicklaunch bar.

I like how quickly the system is available to me after startup/reboot. The slowness of the initial startup is almost nonexistent.

The GUI is smooth, slick, efficient and extremely snappy.

The new WiFi changes are brilliant.

WMP is now actually useable. Though i still prefer Media Player Classic HomeCinema.

The system also feels more responsive. Feels efficient. I guess it attributes to the new memory management system.

Dzomlija mentions libraries, search, and media player 12. interestingly, i don't use any of these features! i use Directory Opus as my file manager, which has had 'libraries' for many years. i use Everything for searching, it's faster and easier than windows search. and for media, i use MPC and foobar, which outperform media player 12 by several parsecs :geek:

You sound just like me I use exactly the same software lol but I would have to say the best thing about 7 is the efficient handling of memory and zippiness of it all.

I'm surprised so many people have sluggishness with libraries, libraries open quicker in 7 than regular folder on vista or XP for me lol. I love libraries.

The speed improvements and memory management is great.

But more than anything, the new taskbar, aero peek, and aero snap are by far my favorite things. It actually makes using my computer pleasurable. Not to mention they all look very pretty :p. I never maximize windows anymore, I always have them vertically maximized via aero snap. And the fill-up-half-the-screen feature is incredibly useful.

Also, I'm gonna post this in another thread, but I'm curious as to why people still use quicklaunch. You can do everything you used to do with quicklaunch via a button press or two while you click on a taskbar icon. Like I often hear the whole thing about opening a file with a program. All you need to do is hold shift while you drag a file into a pinned program and it works perfectly.

So far so great...

Downloaded it in about 20 minutes, made the CD and then installed as a custom install in about 25 minutes. Everything that I have used so far works right out of the box except for my wireless network card does not come back on when I wake the computer up.

My HP color laser works with the original driver (4 or 5 years old) and while the software for my HP 7210 all in one printer did not install, I just plugged the printer into the USB port and W7 found it and its scan properties.

I'm a Google Chrome user but I am tring out IE 8 and it is ok. I have not explored its features.

I like the inproved look and feel of W7. Everything feels more fluid. Feels faster too. No lock up or crashes. I hope that MS continues to improve it so that Apple will have to take down there (fun and funny) commercials.

Using the pinned icons to open files in programs rather than pin to the jumplist works in the windows programs, notepad etc., but doesn't work for me in Office 2007 or my graphics programs. That is why I use the quicklaunch bar. Hope they get it working in all programs. Then I can get rid of QL.

Well, I can't hardly believe it. I just got this all working. I had tried several different ways of pinning icons to the taskbar to get it so I could drop files on the icon and have the files open in that program. After this last post I right clicked on an icon on the quicklaunch bar and the pin to taskbar option was available, so clicked on it (MS Word) then tried the shift+drop file on icon dittie and it worked. Wohoooo. :D

I had tried pinning from the start menu, pinning from the actual .exe file and dragging and dropping onto the taskbar, and nothing worked. Apparently I needed to create shortcuts, in this case on the toolbar, and then pin those to the taskbar. I have had a similar quirk with the quicklaunch bar in Vista. Wow. Now I can get rid of the QL bar.

Spoke too soon. I can drag a single file onto the pinned icon and have that file open in that program, but I can't drag multiple files and have it work. :( Hope they get it fully functional as I would like to do away with the quicklaunch bar. At least it's getting smaller. ;)

As you said not aiming at my comments however i am just one person and when i do use a program frequently, i will search every possible inch i can to understand whats been changed for better/worse or bugs. As for inexperience i only installed RC a week ago, so problems were inevitable, but after a good day today i have most things running properly...

At the moment most people are biased and for a good review you should have to sides to a story. I look for the good and the bad, i would actually like to see downsides to the product (besides people saying its slow when there running a single core).

Im asking for you to be reasonable and logical on this!

Im not speaking to any one person here this is in general to the public.

But come on now, honestly, you cant say that this RC is anykind of improvement over the 7000 Beta...

i'm the opposite, I thought and still DO think that the Beta was made more stable, MS took their time with the beta in releasing to the public to get it "somewhat right" for a public beta release. This public release of RC has so many bugs even an exterminator would run away screaming bloody murder. I know there is going to be issues with drivers, usually with newer hardware, or hardware not widely held, thats fine. But to have all the bugs with HG/Libraries, new ones not seen in Beta, not too mention the first Critical/important security fix not but 4 days i think after public release? That was almost like sending your kid out in the snow to play while wearing shorts and a sun visor. Rediculous mistake that was overlooked before the pub release. Connectivity issues are bountiful in this RC, which wasnt a problem until the imterim builds, around 48, which still to this day is the same problem with RC.

My grief is why release this and call it an RC when quite clearly it doesnt meet up to par standards of previously released RC's by MS or any company for that matter. Most of the MAJOR bugs are supposed to be squashed when RC is met, only a few little things that need to be tested and finalized is and should be the reason for an RC. Unless given an apocalypse or something so unforseen gets thru to RC, with a good explanation would be a reasonable excuse, therefore warranting a quickly made RC2... but it should be Beta 2, not RC or RC2. Its JUST NOT READY for this huge step, unless they plan on releasing a bug ridden OS. Very careless imo. Haste.
