I'm running BitDefender 2010 Antivirus on Win 7 64bit RTM with no problems so far. IT's even a 64 bit application.

I've had it for a few weeks now. I bought a 1 year license for $25

Bitdefender AV 2010 gave me a decline impression! It crashed and hung my Win7 RTM HB! It does slow down my laptop performance, I just uninstall it and ESET still give me a better performance and stable.

Customising BitDefender 2010

I've been running BD 2010 on my new Win 7 (64bit) PC now for about 3 weeks. Bitdefender seem to offer free upgrade to 2010 if you have some time owing on 2009 :) and yes, 64 bit app.
I have observed no problems with slowness or general operation - indeed the new interface is very clean and easy to use, and being a busy user, i have tended to trust that the suite is doing its job and pretty much leave it alone!
However, I've found a problem which apparently is not new to some users - simple switching of some options in the Antivirus custom level settings does not seem to work.
In particular, simply trying to switch OFF "scan outgoing email" by unchecking the box results in no change. BD merrily scans outgoing mail all the time. Likewise that on-screen activity bar is not easy to kill! One unchecks the box in settings and the bar hides ... only to re-appear next time I boot my PC. Hmmm. I have had some brief discussion with support but as usual, we appear to be heading down the trail of in-depth analysis! Oh! And I thought it would be simple!
Any thoughts out there? ...

Bit defender is good at detection. However, what I didn't like about it is its way of scanning. I tried to scan a folder which consists of 1800 images. First scan took around 40 seconds and it scanned around 1750 items and skipped 50 items. I scanned the same folder again with bitdefender. It skipped 1800 items and completed the scan in just 2 secs.

Are they fooling us??

Recently, i did a test on kaspersky 2010, Eset v4, Bitdefender 2010 and Avira Premium v9.0.

downloaded 742 viruses, worms, spy-wares which dated from year 2006 - 2009
updated to the latest of virus definitions and engines.
installed XP SP3 on VMWARE
AMD x2 3800+
2GB RAM
160GB

launched all the viruses at once.
This is to test the anti-virus's engine on detecting, removing, blocking and blah blah blah...
After each testing, will restore from the backup image and continuous the next test.

Findings:
- Kaspersky can block all before those malware plant to the system. But quite hogging on system resources.
- Avira Pemium v9 can block all too, and it is much much better than kaspersky. the malwares can be launched within a lightning speed.
- Bitdefender 2010 failed to block 2 viruses, and failed to recognize of it. Viruses were planted to system32 folder. Msconfig been configured to launch that 2 viruses.
(possibility due to the bitdefender 2010 engine)
- Eset antivirus v4, totally disappointed me! System hang, force to reset the XP, as too many viruses planted on XP. System totally lock with password. It was set by the malwares. (so, eset written in assembly language - light but got pros & cons)

Personal Opinion:
Among 4, avira premium is the best.

p/s: Purposely launch those malwares to infect the system. To test the reaction of antivirus softwares. and no offensive!

I don't think these tests are legit- BitDefender is rated pretty good in idependent tests online, so I have total confidence in it; avira is good but I heard there are problems with their updates; I'll stick with BitDefender for the moment

what i understood is, they testing methodology is to "recognize" the vast of viruses by benchmark on Detection Rate then to tell apart.
But what i did was, using those malwares to purposely INFECT the system and test the mentioned antivirus REALTIME speed which from Detecting -> Blocking -> Deleting or Quarantining of it.
Of course, all the antivirus software can do a well job on removing a single or more than a certain range of viruses. But for a totally of multiple attacking, then we can tell apart.
