What gaming case to get?

Hey guys, Thank you all for your advice and links to reviews which I read. After a lot of research and taking into account the money I am prepared to spend on my case and all that I have decided to get the the 690 II Advanced.
Again thanks for all the help and I look forward to putting my computer into it hehe!!

I got Zalman GS1000SE. Plenty of room with three fans preinstalled. 2 on top and 1 at rear, you got space to add 1 more on bottom of case. It also got holes for water cooling tubes. Best thing is you can easily remove/install HDD's from front without opening case.

I ordered the Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler a couple of days ago and then decided to upgrade my case.
It was a tough choice but ended up getting the HAF-932, and it is huge. It doesn't look that big on the internet.

I was also considering the 690 II that the OP bought but I am not too fond of the styling, the raised edges with silver inserts turned me off.

I normally go for Nvidia edition cases for the colour theme of them as I try to keep a black and green theme, but I find there's too much green on that case.

Prefer Nvidia edition cases like the CM690/CM690 II Nvidia Edition or the Silverstone Temjin TJ10 Nvidia Edition that keeps the green minimal.

As for the case itself, then it's a great case being an HAF X. I'd probably go for a case like the HAF X myself if I didn't move my computer around a lot as I take it home and bring it back to Uni, so a large case would be annoying to keep moving whereas I find the CM690 II is fairly small for a high performance case and still plenty of room inside.

On the plus side, dust won't show up as much on the green parts.

But the HAF X is a great case.

Meh , I was just Window shopping for now anyway. Ill probably go with a regular HAF-X case when its time. But plenty of time to decide on that

I didn't see any, other than the green accents. Looked at the like to newegg you provided.

BTW the dimensions given by Coolermaster and listed on newegg are backwards. If you measure from the bottom of the case where the rubber feet start (bottom) to the very top of the case, it's 23 inches, with the wheels, it's 24 inches tall. Depth is about 21.7.

I actually have the case and just measured again to be sure I wasn't crazy

I also noted it in my review.

They state that the (H) height is 21.7 inches, and the (D) depth is 23.2. It’s actually the other way around, the height is 23.2 inches and the depth is 21.7

I might be mistaken, but according to this review about it:

There were a couple extra fans and Wind Tunnels for the GPUs.

It didnt appear as it this was part of the regular edition.
I didnt see this mentioned in other reviews, or yours (unless I overlooked it), yet your link to the official site in your review does mention it.

Actually if you go back to newegg here everyting listed is what I have, including those "wind tunners" (which I don't use) and the wheels

OK I see Coolermaster has included a 120mm fan for the wind tunnel, while I did get the tunnel, I didn't get the fan. Other than that fan, everything that video shows I got.

Also they are misinformed about the hot swappable drives. You DO NOT have to reboot the PC if you're using AHCI. They obviously don't know that. I swap my drives all the time between a WD 1TB hard drive and a 500. No PC reboots.

Hmm .. Given the choice I think Id just rather have the regular one since they do seem to be the same.
That green might be a bit much for me after a while of looking at it.

And yea, I did think that was odd about the reboot issue. Must have been in IDE mode or something which is why they had issues.. Youd think they would have thought about that.

Well, I obviously do not know from 1st hand experience, but ...

From the looks of it, It would appear it is of great benefit if you have a SLI or X-Fire Setup thats air cooled.

For a single card, Im guessing not so much.


Least thats how it looks to me.

I too would like a more definitive answer to this question from those with experience with it.

You're talking abou the HAF X?

If so, I don't use mine, never did.

Yea I mean the HAF X, and I can imagine it benefits multi-GPU setups, but just wondering by how much.

That item is actually called an air duct.

Anyway considering that some of the front fan's air is going to be blocked by the hard drives and you have two cards installed there's not going to be much air flow for a dual card setup, so the air duct with the 120mm fan should help add some air flow.

For me, being that I only have a single card setup I see no use in using the air duct. I also don't want to add the extra noise a 120mm fan can bring. Now If I had two cards installed, I'd definitely use the air duct with the 120mm fan.

That's me though.

Also note that the VGA bracket is also designed to house a 120mm fan. And if you do use the VGA bracket you need to remove the side air duct on the 200mm side fan. Page 11 of the user manual for the HAF X.
