Solved What is AOMEI Information Code:4140?

Sigh..............

Hi SWI2:

Great post, made it clear with the screenshots....

Thanks for taking time to show me (I will again open up a Opera history to this point so I can find it again, hoping I don't lose Opera until I get to use your good instructions)

Meanwhile...... sigh.... here I go.........longer post typing than I should take...

You wrote:

Just type regedit in start search box.

Yup! I found it.... only one in search answers... clicked on it....

BLACK BOX of the Command Prompt Appears for 1/ten-millionth of a second----to fast to read what error message it had for me or what ever it said or not and VANISHES..

Did that several times....

Now I remember....

One of DOZENS of "problems" with computer that have to be carefully , slowly "fixed" in order for me to be able to fix other things...

Now I remember..... a year ago, when Lost Norton Ghost, on phone with Norton for that.... they won't help.... but I pointed out something else with "Symantec" on it.. a piece of something... and the guy said he would fix that for me... did same thing...

PUZZLED them!!! They said to go away and get someone to "fix" the Reg Edit box and then he can type by remote commands in it to fix the Norton stuff (I refer to other posting by Kaktussoft where he found Symantec item in the VSS lines) Again it was not "GO away " because we can't fix it, but "Go Away" and buy SSR or something to back up my files "FIRST" as the guy on the remote said there was a possiblity....

"a possibility" that something might go wrong when using Reg Edit commands so should always have a good current backup---at that time I was just one month behind my monthly savings as Norton Ghost vanished so could not do it after that (was in March 2014).....

So Here I am today... found the Reg Edit... and its vanishing, canceling itself....

If you want me to: (I will start a new thread (EASY!) just tell me to do it and copy and paste all this there so others can see it and you can get credit for solving yet another computer problem I have!!)

Thanks!

Oh I wanted to address these items:

If Aomei is working, it seems the drivers have installed properly now. Maybe you did a reboot ?
Yes REbooting the computer (total shutdown I chose) did the trick.

And as for "restore" Since I"m not really good at this.... and don't want to damage the existing drive, I appreciate you showing me what the path means by photos! Great!
Now I can use the "Utilities" function...(As Kaktussoft suggested in post # 14? ) to "view" the files and confirm for myself they were all "saved". But, if I mount the drive doing that process---is that restoring the drive??

Click the box that says "path" and browse to the backup location you selected when you created the image. There should be a folder called MyBackup or SystemBackup. Inside there is the image file.

Thanks again!

P.S. In case you ask me to try... Yes I can get my normal, saved on start menu: "Administrator Command Prompt" black DOS level box to appear as normal and type in it.... its the "Reg Edit" (search found 1 program with that name) vanishes when I try to launch it.

Solved the RegEdit --maybe

Hallo Kaktussoft!

Got your message:

In an elevated command prompt (you call it "Administrator Command Prompt" ) do:
Code:
regedit

What happens ? Try to read the error message

Tried it your way---Now I got the Registery Editor I know about:

Regedit works maybe PS17615.jpg

Don't remember the next step... but at least it works that way.

Tried it other way again, still does not work.

OH and reason I call it "Administrator Command Prompt" is I don't know how to say shorter that I was told to open the Command Prompt using the key part "use as Administrator" to make it work... so came up with that phrase....

As I said elsewhere... I don't know how to write shortly worded computer instruction books!
Again,

Thanks!
Bedankt!

Of course that doesn't restore the drive. Read the documentation and use google to find the relevant information

Hallo Kaktussoft!

Thanks for following up on everything:

Of course that doesn't restore the drive. Read the documentation and use Google to find the relevant information

Yes, I'll read the manual for AOMEI and google to learn more about how this all works to view files so I don't mess them up, now I have one AOMEI back up.

YES I typed "regedit" (I'm slow and not sure of knowledge, but I do type what I see here)

NOW it works when I do it.... I don't know why it did not work before.

Maybe investigating why might damage it more???

I'll be satisfied to just be able to use Regedit again.

Thanks!

Bedankt!

Hallo Kaktussoft!

THANKS for such a speedy reply (twice I see!)

I did follow the exact instructions in the elevated command prompt thus:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Windows\system32>reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Ser

Permanently delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\VSS\Providers\{262b716e-bb23-41b5-aaef-e2c15e767167} (Yes/No)? yes
The operation completed successfully.

C:\Windows\system32>

NOW I assume the old VSS piece of Symantec has been deleted...

As for the second part of your post # 27

succeeded succesfully? If so reboot.
then in elevated command prompt:
Code:

Post output

Here are the results:

You can still create a system restore point? You can now make backups with normal VSS enabled I suppose(?)

Yes and yes!

Hallo Kaktussoft!

You wrote in Post # 31

You can still create a system restore point? You can now make backups with normal VSS enabled I suppose(?)

Answers?

1. Yes have been doing System restores despite the Windows 7's messed up VSS. Since your repair to the Registry command and removal of the errors, I have checked it by successfully creating two more restore points----(one for an Adobe new update to Flash Player that I did inbetween just to make certain all systems are working on restore points, on and off computer rebooting ok, etc...)

and

2. Now that is a GREAT suggestion! Now that the damaged "Symantec" VSS has been removed from the Registery! its time to run Macrium Reflect I own and paid for again,
to check and see if NOW it works and can backup and save to my new HDD!
I was advised in Windows Seven Forum: A. Always have two backup programs in case one fails! and B. make several backups! So its time for me to put A and B to use now that you, Kaktussoft have fixed the problems here!

(and I'll rep you right away if the Macrium starts up ok, as that would indicate I got past the "Error code stop screen" I got before in this earlier Thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-r...ect-backup-aborted-error-code-0x8004230f.html where many here spent considerable effort to determine that it was the malfunctioning VSS from the Symantec that was causing everything to go wrong with Macrium, which uses only the native VSS and does not (unlike AOMEI I learned too late!) carry with it its over snapshot software that can replace the VSS for backup purposes.
I'm learning... slowly, but learning!

So I'm clear:

I'll wait a while and see if you have any last minute comments (or anyone else does) before I make the commitment to try making a backup again using Macrium Reflect program.

Until then:

Thanks!
Bedankt!

P.S. Just wondering about the grammar of the sentence ... have I been able to do backups using the "normal VSS enabled"???
Does that mean I should FIRST go back in to the AOMEI system and tell it to "stop" using its VSS and return to using the computer's VSS? I didn't know if the AOMEI was still running something in the background or not.... Ghost always did, so I guess I should assume backup programs today keep themselves current as to the state of affairs on the HDD running in the background.

It was just a setting in AOMEI to instruct AOMEI to use its own VSS routines. In macrium you can do something similar Advanced Backup Options

Brilliant solution!

Hallo Kaktussoft!

Thanks for rapid reply!

You are Brilliant! What a solution!

NO ONE here on Windows Seven Forum mentioned I could adjust Macrium's settings this way.
All suggested I purchase (yet again---making the relative, the true owner of this laptop very unhappy at constant expenditures for a "five year old laptop".....)

So I will try Macrium the way it was set up first, if it still fails to use the native VSS properly to make a backup, I'll go off and use this setting and check box to disable the VSS part.

(I don't recall if I or the main user are using MS Exchange, which it says it might be effected, I'll research that, but wanted to send to you my pleasure at your post and information first---probabaly will try right away the Macrium regular setting). [updated: MS Exchange seems to run on servers (which of course the laptop does not use or access in any way I'm aware of... Windows Live Mail is used (2011 ed) which was spun off from MS Exchange but not clear if the shadow copying I read about is in Windows Live Mail client that is being used for some (not all) of the Emails associated with this laptop].

Thanks!
Bedankt!

Question about WAIK vs WIN PE lost the info search does not find it

Hi Everyone!

Hopefully easy, short question! (I type long, its an easy question!)

I now have: 1. Macrium Reflect, and 2. AOMEI working with native VSS and copied on external HDD once (got to do it twice, but)

AOMEI is asking if I want to make the AIK WAIK? boot disk, for this it says it needs that WAIK file from "Windows" central (you know, the 8 hour download)

MY MEMORY is bad. .... as in a new thread I'll explain..

I only have the threads...

I tried searching the threads for our discussions about AIK WAIK AKK ?? and I got this result for all 4 (of my 7) threads:

The following errors occurred with your search:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : aik, akk
Of course it searched for WAIK and it did not find that one...
So

QUESTION my simple question is this: I have downloaded from whs' One Drive WIN PE 5.3 7220 .iso for Macrium Rewflect, and copied twice to CD's for safety.

Now AOMEI is asking me to do the same.... Do I need both?

Are the WIN PE's for each one specific to each back up system?

Or can I just use the one I got from whs as my single, only needed Recovery Boot disk?

I can't find our discussion about this.....I know I asked in one of the 4 threads!!!

Search is not helping and I did copy those postings as how to use Macrium/AOMEI and paste it in a file "to be done" and I will post a separate issue with that as soon as I find where it goes here (Look for my post in Welcome new users)

Sorry for such a long delay, I am writing thank yous to everyone for helping me here and in other open threads before I close them and hopefully I'll find some others to give reps to so I can return and select the best most helpful postings to identify which are key to success in my long long postings.

Thanks again for reading this... hope my question is clear above, if not ask!!!

Hi Everyone!!

I wish to thank all who posted and helped me to get this far.

Summary of where I am:

1. Discussions on what types of Backup Programs work the best, settled on two: Macrium Reflex and AOEMI Backerupper as the best to choose.

2. Recommendation from all was to have not just one type of backup program, but two in case one fails, as they are only software and prone to all the trouble third party software can have.

3. Downloaded and Installed Macrium, but it did not work due to problems with VSS system on this laptop.

4. Thanks to the assistance here, I got AOMEI Backerupper to work and successfully made a backup using its own VSS "shadow copy" system

5. Confident I had at least "one" backup recently, we then Fixed/Repaired the problem on Windows 7 Registry about broken/taken over VSS System.

6. I then was able to use Macrium Reflect I purchased to make a second backup copy (first for Macrium that works!) using the native, repaired Windows 7 VSS system.

7. I then was able to get "free!!!" a permanent, successfully registered Professional copy of the AOMEI Backupper ver. 2.2 and it works so everything is ok there...

So in honor of all these accomplishments I'm closing most of the open threads that had problems with getting /obtaining/ installing/ using the various Backup systems we discussed here.

Now I'm going around to distribute as promised, some reps to those who helped me the most to succeed in this complicated backup jungle out there....

One final item left over.....

I started a new thread....... about AOMEI and getting its rescue boot disk downloaded... I got a few replies here: http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-r...o-search-no-find-inmythreads.html#post3007195
but I think I still have the questions in "red" numbers not answered, unless I read the items wrong

-----------

(Remember I lost a bunch of Word Pad documents---explained in another thread.... http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/349469-welcome-seven-forums-6-a-23.html ((at post # 227))

........ and Opera history where I stored the pages I got from everyone here and opened them up for easy reference all vanished.... http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers...hk-deleted-all-opera-history.html#post3001691 .

..............so I will return to those threads to solve those problems now that I have backups current (and of course I'll do another backup before playing with Registry etc if that is needed to fix any of these new problems).

Thanks for all your help in this complicated (at least to me!!!) issue.
