Solved What is the best Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit free firewall?

Windows Firewall. Low load, no installation, tastes great, less filling.

Try Comodo Internet Security Premium which is totally free and very powerful. Other than firewall, it has Defense+, Antivirus, and Sandbox feature.

The only difference between the free version and paid version is technical support. If you need tech support, Buy the professional version. Otherwise the free version should do the job.

This is what I am using at present on my Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and Windows XP Professional on two of my laptops after using Kaspersky, Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm Security Suite (all paid versions).

Comodo is available for both x86 and x64 windows platforms.

This is my personal choice and I recommend it. Others may recommed different softwares. Please read reviews of the choices available and make up your mind.
I also recommend what you have mentioned. It's a very good setup.

Personally, I find COMODO Firewall to be super awesome, love it. Try it out, it's free and is just, awesome.

Biggest problem about Comodo is it is OVER protective. Installing something can take a bloody age, pressing "allow" a ridiculous number of times it drove me up the wall, and I ended up taking it off. And Sphinx, which works alongside Windows 7 stopping programs "phone home" which Windows Firewall WON'T do, the horrendous noise it makes before it displays a dialog box for allowing connection, and it just refuses to allow Giveawayoftheday to connect full stop. The prog has to be uninstalled before it allows, and repeated requests to Sphinx just falls on deaf ears (because you're not PAYING. The free one is just ignored) Comodo over the top, Sphinx blocks the wrong progs, Online Armor - you download the FREE firewall and it ISN'T, it immediately goes to 30 day trial !
The basic Windows Firewall is good for incoming ONLY.
As for Routers, Ive never been able to suss how they work as a firewall.

I'm using the Windows built-in firewall, and it's fine, but I'm sure it's not the best. With a proper configuration it does a good job filtering unwanted traffic, both incoming and outgoing. Just don't trust the default settings, they are completely insecure. The only thing I REALLY miss with it are the notifications when connections are blocked, it's a serious drawback.
I would like to try Comodo somewhen, it seems very capable too.

As mentioned by the guys for 3rd party firewalls Comodo / Online Armor free are okay. But you have NAT Router so you can use the built-in Windows firewall. Personally I'd choose Comodo :)

Wow, damn-it! I have PCTools Firewall v7 & it decided to !@#&* my connection after I installed FFox. So, do I re-install / repair PCTools OR goto 7's firewall? Like Tool's interface on see'n what's going on with in / outbound but want something that WILL play well with others...? Am currently "building" my Win 7 / digging myself out of the stone-age due to necessity.

No idea about that particular on, never used it, but in general, the most important aspect in any firewall is the rule's configuration. You probably need to add a rule (or let it to "learn" if it can) to allow Firefox to connect to internet.

Thanks Alejandro85, tried TinyWall 2.1.4 and would NOT unpack / install. Said there were errors / issues with the msi package file, hhhmmm. I know the TinyWall "learns" so that's kewl but I wonder if 7's wall does too?

Remember that TinyWall is NOT a firewall!
It's just a "nicer" control panel for the built-in Windows Firewall, that supposedly helps you controlling it, but don't have a firewall engine by itself. Just because of it, I don't see too much reason to ever use it, just stick to the Win7 one in that case.

Hi Alejandro85.

Well Tiny bought the farm after install issues & then 7 shut it down after it started having a case of the stupids. Good idea but disfuctional on my system, conclusion, deleted (oh and does NOT come with a uninstaller AND 7's Programs and Features could not uninstall / had issues) with Revo. Done. Now am using PCTools v7 after I found malware screwing up Win7's firewall, so removed malware with Windows bug finder & 7's wall works NO PROBLEM (used some of Brinks tutorials short-cut, enable/disable, add to list, etc). But I like PCTools 7, does in / out. Problem(s) solved.
